Windows 10: Windows suddenly now takes 1-2 minutes to boot. What happened?

Windows suddenly takes 1-2 minutes to boot

I have UEFI and ultra fast boot enabled and my windows installation in my SSD. Typically it takes 10 seconds maximum for windows to load but all of the sudden it now takes minutes. My system loads quickly through the bios logo and then the screen goes completely black for about a minute before the logon screen appears, no windows loading screen, just black. I’ve scanned for viruses, used process explorer and autoruns to check for malicious processes, scanned the drive for any errors, reinstalled graphics drivers, rolled back the windows update and am now at a loss for what to try next. I know it’s not a bios issue because task manger says the bios boot time was 7 seconds. This problem happened over night without me installing any new software or downloading files from the internet. Anyone experienced an issue like this or have an idea how to fix it?

laptop doesnt boot automatically

This is what happened.

1. Did a repair install and later disabled hibertnate in CMD.
2. Enabled legacy option ROM in BIOS.
3. After a few times startup ( i used the system in such mode for 5 days), changed boot option back to default.
4. Vola!! It boots automatically to win10 without any keypress. Tested it with many starts to confirm the same.
5. Re-enabled hibernate option using CMD and later selected Fast Startup.
6. System booted normally, without the need for any keypress.

I do not know exactly whether such steps resolved the problem or what else happened, hence cannot suggest above steps.

Windows Update suddenly hangs?

Windows Update is suddenly hanging for some reason... I went and downloaded and installed the first bunch of updates, restarted when asked, and now when I go back to windows update I just get the window with a white box forever. Reboot and it still does it. This happens to be on my main machine, running windows 7.

I've also noticed when I reboot it says configuring windows update, step 3 of 3, 47%. Maybe it somehow skipped something and is screwed forever?

 

Windows 7 freezes for 1 minute

My custom built rig has lately, in the past 2 months or so, been having these spits of freezing. It will freeze for exactly 1 minute: always 1 minute, every time. I can time it down to the second.

The weird thing is that when it freezes, some programs seem to be immune to it. When playing a full screen game, video and audio will freeze (though not always at the same time, sometimes one or the other will lag). Playing a 3D game in windowed mode seems to be immune to it however. Windows explorer and Firefox always seems to freeze, but Windows Messenger (including video call) will work as normal even while everything else is frozen. After a minute has passed, everything is back to normal. It happens at irregular intervals: sometimes it will happen then happen again 30 seconds later, and sometimes I can go hours without the problem.

It's a bit bizarre and I'm not sure what is causing it. The fact that it is always exactly 1 minute makes me think it's some dumb program checking for an update or something, but I can't pin it down.

Any ideas appreciated.
