"Houston, we have a problem." Still have spinning circles nine hours later. I forced a reboot to see if it had just gotten stuck. It rebooted normally until the end doing then did the same thing. I get the small Windows logo that you normally get just before you are presented with the logon screen. But then it goes to the blank screen with spinning circles in the center. I have every device except my mouse and keyboard disconnected. I'm unsure what to do next.

I'm afraid if I did a full reinstall that I'd have the same issue, plus I'm in the middle of a project (i'm an animator) and I have a deadline. It took me two weeks to reinstall a few months ago due to two dozen broken software authorizations.

This is a new very expensive custom machine. New motherboard, ram, processors so I don't think it's hardware related.

    Any ideas?

Oh no, sorry to hear this. I have asked for some help from additional members.

In the meantime, You can get to advanced startup/repair options by simulating a failed boot 3x (see option 6) using the power button:
Advanced Startup Options - Boot to in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums

I am thinking maybe safe mode and set the machine for a clean boot using run/msconfig. But, let's see if some of the other guys have another idea.

Ok. I'm working in safe mode now and trying things. Just disabled Fast Boot in the registry and rebooted. No help. Doing things on-at-a-time so I know what doesn't work. I'll try safe boot next.

Been reading all the posts on your problem. simrick has been giving you great help, and suggestions!! But I have not seen in these posts that you have tried booting to Windows without those other 5 drives. I did see you report once that you did repair installs, and clean installs etc ....but only once did I see you say that those other 5 drives were disconnected ?? If I am wrong please let me know. I think those other drives should be all disconnected UNTIL your main drive can boot up. Once they are all disconnected completely .....then we can work on just the one drive. Also the drive that runs your Windows OS What brand is it?

Sorry I didn't see if its an SSD or spinner either......I'm just grasping at straws here *Smile

Hi Mike, my OS is on a Corsair 120GB SSD. Clean Boot did not help so l will now disconnect all drives. Good suggestion.

Also would like to see you download MiniTool Partition Manager instead of Windows Disk Management which sucks. *Smile but that doesn't have to be done right now.

Windows takes two hours to boot every reboot. Goes to spinning circles

No go. Only single OS drive contacted, clean boot enabled, spinning circles. I can get into Safe Mode just fine after forcing 3 reboot failures. So the answer lies in the difference between some aspect of Safe Mode and Full Mode.

FYI, I also disconnected my network so Windows can't go get updates at the end of the boot thinking that maybe that's what is causing the spinning circles, that it's trying to find and install updates.

Have you at anytime run winver command to see what Windows build # you are on Rob ??
I also just looked for an old friend of mine to see if he was on......but dam it he isn't. He is REAL Good at Partition problems, and was hoping I could drag his butt over here too. @Word Man but he's not ....yet ....

Can you type winver in a command prompt admin in safe mode Rob?

Also do you know which sata port that your SSD is plugged into Rob ? should be either port 0 or port 1 if you don't show a sata port 0 then should be sata port 1

Windows takes two hours to boot every reboot. Goes to spinning circles

Yes, I had run winver and I had the latest build I believe. I'll do that again now... Ok, it's: Version 1511 (10586.164)

So now I'm really stuck. My solution "cannot" be clean reinstall for two reasons. 1) it's likely I'll have the same issue and 2) I'll lose a new big client by spending two weeks rebuilding. I hope some guru has a solution.

Hi Mike, thanks for your help. Good idea to disconnect all the other drives and focus on the OS drive. Also good Rob to disconnect the network to keep WUs out of the picture at this point.
I see @essenbe is here as well. We had indication of boot issues from WhoCrashed. Can we get the BSOD crash reporter run in safe mode @essenbe?
Rob, what do you use for images, Macrium by chance?
