  1. Windows Taskbar freezes. the PC restarts after 5 minutes

Hi there,I've recently built a new PC and noticed that my computer would start freezing and restarting randomly. It happened at around 4am when the computer wasn't in use and then has happened twice on seperate days while working on my PC. I noticed that the taskbar and my firefox video stream will freeze and the clock at the bottom right of the screen will freeze. I can still interect with the taskbar, move firefox, task manager windows around and also open up the clock popup with the calender but the time will have frozen. I was also playing CIV VI and it was still running in the background.

    :)

Windows 10 taskbar freezes every 10 minutes

    Hi,

My Windows 10 taskbar freezes every 10-20 minutes ie the clock stops and I can't launch any programs. Windows explorer then restarts and everything is ok for another 10-20 minutes until it freezes again.

Any help would be much appreciated as this is pretty annoying.

    Cheers

    Dan

    Taskbar freeze at start 20H2

Have you tried any or all of these.

    Method 1: Use Powershell

Use the Powershell command to unfreeze the frozen taskbar by following the steps below:

    1. Press and hold the Windows logo key + R.

    2. Type powershell in the Run dialog box.

    3. Hit Enter.

    4. Type the following command line: Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml”}.

    5. Hit Enter.

Take note that you have to enable the Windows Firewall before performing the task above. Here are the steps on how to check if the Windows Firewall was enabled:

    1. Open Task Manager.

    2. Click More Details.

    3. Select the Services tab.

    4. Make sure that MpsSvc, also described as Windows Firewall, is running.

Method 2: Enable the User Manager.

A disabled User Manager sometimes results in a frozen Windows taskbar. To re-enable the User Manager, follow these steps:

    1. Press and hold Windows logo key + R.

    2. Type services.msc.

    3. Double-click the User Manager.

    4. Set the Startup type to Automatic.

    5. Hit OK.

    6. Restart the computer.

Method 3: Disable Recently Opened Items.

Disabling the recently opened items helps to speed up the list launch. To disable items that are recently opened, follow the instruction below:

    1. Go to Settings.

    2. Select Personalization.

    3. Click Start.

    4. Slide the toggle button beside Show recently opened items in Jump Lists on Star or the taskbar to turn it off.

So It freezes upon startup right after a fresh install of Windows? im asking if it worked but then you installed a VPN or Other Antivirus software and then it didnt work ?

  4. Windows Taskbar freezes. the PC restarts after 5 minutes

Windows 10 freezes after ~5 minutes of inactivity/idle

    Hi,

Hoping for some assistance on this, for what appears to be a somewhat common problem.

My issue is extremely similar to
    this issue
. I would in fact say it is virtually identical.

    In summary..

    • After ~5 minutes of inactivity, Windows 10 completely freezes
    • It absolutely hangs - it does not respond to any keyboard or mouse input. The
only thing it responds to is a hard power off by holding down the power button for a few seconds.
    • It doesn't matter whether music/video is playing - it will freeze provided there is
      5 minutes of inactivity
    • If music is playing, the audio will also freeze.
    • This means provided the computer receives constant input (whether mouse or keyboard), I can use it for almost an indefinite period of time
    • I suspect it is related to a Windows Update/driver
    • There are a small number of other situations which trigger a freeze - appears to be related to installation of software and/or Windows Update
      • Example is after installing VirtualBox, computer will freeze upon opening
      • Whilst attempting to install a Samsung Android driver, it froze in the middle of installation
As a side issue, I am also unable to shut down, restart or hibernate my computer. Shutting down/restarting/hibernating will result in the screen turning off, but unless I actually hard power off the computer by holding onto the power button, the power light
will show as on and you can hear the fan constantly running until it is forced off by a hard power off. I believe this is also related to a Windows Update/driver, because it did work previously. Maybe this should have its own separate question post, seeing
as it is probably a separate issue.

    Hardware/Software Summary:

    • Laptop Model: Acer Aspire E14 ES1-411-C1WD (purchased ~July 2015)
    • OS: Windows 10 Home, Version 1709, OS Build 16299.192
    • Processor: Intel Celeron CPU N2940 @ 1.83GHz

Let me know if any other information is required that may be of assistance.

Appreciate any assistance that can be provided!
