Windows 10: Windows Temp Files keep filling up with evtx files

This has been ongoing for a while now but I'm finally irritated enough by it to post. Every few weeks, our temp files folder gets filled up wit a bunch of .evtx files. I delete them all 118k of them and they come back as fast as I can delete them. It goes on for a few days and then stops for a while. All the names start with Microsoft-Windows- and then have names like the below, followed by a code which I think might be my Windows Key so I'm not going to publish it. AppReadiness_Admin_ AppXDeploymentServer_Operational StateRepository_Operational AppXPackaging_Operational AppReadiness_Operational SettingSync_Debug SettingSync_Operational Store_Operational WindowsUpdateClient_Operational System Application then there is a .txt file that has the following text. The Package full name is different on some of them Package full name = Microsoft.XboxGamingOverlay_5.320.6242.0_neutral_~_8wekyb3d8bbwe AppXDeploymentServer version = 10.0.18362.959 Result code = 0x80073CF6 Component failure code = 0x87AF0001 ETW Event ID = 5092 Deployment Operation = 4294967294 Package Manager State = 21 OSIM state = 3 Failed component name = windows.visualElements IsEvtExportLogPresent =  I know enough about computers to be dangerous. TEMP System folder keeps filling itself with evtx and txt files

Windows has two Temp folders, one is located in your user profile folder (C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Local\Tamp) and the other is C:\Windows\Temp

I suspect it is the System Temp folder (C:\Windows\Temp) that is filling up

Open File Explorer, then navigate to that folder, is that full of thousands of evtx ot appx files?

 

AxInstSV Filling up C:\ drive with TEMP files after last WIndows 10 Updgrade (May 2018)

After the last Windows 10 update to the version 1803, compilation 17134.48 installed on 19/05/2018, the c:\ drive gets filled up gradually untill it is completely full.

Running the tool to cleanup the disk shows that the TEMP files are the large portion of what is filling it up (around 30 Gb, that corresponds to the normal free space).

Activating the same tool to do a disk cleanup, it will only show 3 or 4 categories of TEMP files, each with around 10 Mb each, none of which correspond to the mentioned 30 Gb.

Cleaning with the disk cleanup tool will delete the mentioned 3 or 4 categories, freeing around 200 or 300 Mb, but NOT the 30 Gb.

Using CCleaner, I was able to find the service that is filling up the c:\ drive.

The culprit seems to be AxInstSV . It will fill up the c:\windows\TEMP directory with a very, very long list of files with names as:

AppXDeploymentServer_8D4BFFAF-EF9C-0001-0D10-508D9CEFD301.evtx

Each one with around 5188 Kb, and they keep adding up, untill the drive is full.

Using the CCleaner, these .evtx files can be deleted, but as soon as that is done, the Service restarts to build them up again.

Using the Services Application, the ActiveX Installer will display as Stopped, and in Manual Mode.

Manually starting, and then stopping it causes no change in the pilling up of .evtx files.

I will be looking forward to hear from you soon with a solution for this problem.

Is your Temp folder filling up with evtx files?
