I am dealing with an absolutely ridiculous problem so please bear with me.

I have a new laptop on which I run Windows 10 Pro 1909. I also immediately set up dual boot with a Linux Mint distro.

The time on the Windows OS has been wrong after a restart unless time sync is on. If I shut down the laptop for around 2-3 minutes, the clock jumps by ~ a minute. The longer the laptop is off (hibernate or shutdown, no sleep), the more the clock jumps forward. In a night the time drifts by around 10 hours. In a sense, time runs faster /facepalm

At the same time my bios time has remained correct, although when going from windows straight to bios I saw the wrong windows time once.

I also checked the time on the Linux OS and it remains correct as well. While testing I made sure to leave the laptop offline so network time sync is not a factor.

One problem I heard about is that Unix stores and reads time in the bios in UTC while Windows assumes local time. I changed this on Linux to no effect. To be honest, the time drift is irregular (eg not full hours) so this is a separate issue.

OS: Windows 10 1909 (dual boot with Linux Mint) Laptop: Lenovo X1 7th Gen

Time displays incorrectly with inconsistent variations from correct

    Hi John,

To change the time settings on your computer, what I can suggest is to make sure that the Time zone that is set on your computer is correct based on your location. Also, try to change and make sure that the settings on your BIOS is correct.

Let us know how it goes.

    Changing Time Format

    Hi Mary,

There's a possibility that the set up time format in your computer Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) is military time. To have this checked, you can try to reset the time of your computer through Control Panel. See the steps below on how to do
    so:

    • Open Control Panel > Clock, Language, and Region >
Change date, time, or number formats. This would open the
      Region
      window.
    • From there, click on Additional settings at the bottom part. It will open the Customize Format.
    • Click Reset; then, OK.

The steps should work; however, if not, we suggest that you contact manufacturer and have the BIOS time checked.

Let us know what happens after doing the suggestions .

  4. Windows time "goes faster" when laptop off while BIOS time is correct.

    Laptop goes into bios everytime.

I tried doing what you suggested but I screwed up so bad earlier that whenever I reboot the laptop it goes straight into the bios (F2) even though I don't press it every time. So when I press F9 instead of getting the option you said it would I just activate the restore to default settings on the bios because it goes straight into the bios after the logo.

EDIT: Is there a way to do anything to fix it here from the bios or is the only way to get windows 10 iso and just work it from there.
