Windows Time is constantly out of sync

As the title suggests, my time is always out of sync, it makes it increasingly difficult to follow conversations on Skype, for instance. I try to manually update the time and it tells me fairly often that there's an error when trying to update. It doesn't matter if my PC is powered off or if I'm using it, the time is bound to get out of sync, so I doubt it has anything to do w/ the CMOS battery. Should I be using a different time server other than time.windows.com? I'm also using Webroot SecureAnywhere Anti-virus. Not sure if that's causing a conflict or not.

    I'm on Windows 10 RTM
I'm not connected to a domain, just a regular Windows Home network.

    :)

  2. Windows Date & Time constantly out of sync

    Hi Aaron,

    Sorry for the delayed reply.

Let us know how you've put the settings of Date and Time. I would like to inform you that once you go to settings, it will show two options:

    Short time

    Long time

Short time is for desktop timing and Long time is for Lock screen timing. Here is the steps:

Click on Date and Time on bottom-right corner of the screen.

Click on Date and Time Settings.

Click on Change Date and Time format.

    Set the Short time and
Long Time format according to your convenience and align it.

Also, check in the command prompt(admin mode) whether the date and time is synchronized or not. Follow the steps: Press
    Windows+X key >select Command prompt(admin) > type
date and hit Enter and check> then type time and hit Enter and check.

Reply with the updated status and we'll be glad to help.

  3. Windows Date & Time constantly out of sync

A couple moths ago, while I still had windows 8.1, I had to change my Microsoft outlook password for some reason. And ever since I did, windows had a problem trying to sync the date & time. I was hoping that once Windows 10 released I would install it and
it would fix itself somehow, but it didn't. So if I want the exact date & time I have to go into the settings, turn Set time automatically off and back on so that it will resync. But when I do that it only stays correct for a little while, and when I go back
to check the time later it's off sync again. I tried syncing to different servers, but I get the same problem no matter what. Please help, I have no idea why it keeps going out of sync.

    Thanks!

Thanks. I think I did the same thing on Windows 7, I had to. That worked then. I thought I tried that a week ago but had problems, so lets see if it sticks now. I'll post back if I have problems.

Yeah that didn't last long. I got another error when trying to manually update, well, the same one. Even with this time server, the clock got out of sync. Any suggestions?

  8. Windows Time is constantly out of sync

Mine was exactly the same when I first installed Win 10, the time would sync with the server but every hour the clock would be 10-15 fast. After booting the PC at the start of the day the time would be correct then it would gain time. For some reason today it has sorted it's self out and keeps time ok, hopeful this will continue.

My clock right now says 5:29 when it should say 5:21. I did the changes above, set it to time.nist.gov and still having problems.

  10. Try setting it to time-a.nist.gov and see if that works. I'm using Win 10 and that is what my computer has been using to keep time in sync since the Win 10 upgrade. Let me know how it does for you.

I'm posting this at exactly 10:22 AM whereas the clock on my system tray says 11:04 AM. I did change the time server to this setting last night and clicked the update button. Obviously this didn't do the trick and my clock is STILL ahead. Any other suggestions?

  12. Sorry Joshkorn that it didn't work for you. I can't help you any further with this. Someone else that is more computer-savvy than me is going to have to help you with this time difference for I've never had a problem like this happen to me. Good Luck and have a nice day! *Smile

Yes. I click on the X, and it closes, it's not even running in the System Tray, but the service is still running. I noticed that even after a few minutes, it still gets ahead. Possibly just when it's in between resync times. I have it set to 15 minutes, the lowest, and still I have problems

Run the computer in safe mode for a while and see if it keeps time then. If so, then you may want to check for malware on your computer. Also check the CMOS battery anyway, just to rule that possibility out. Also make sure all your Windows time settings are correct and even though the external time server may be specified, make sure it is enabled to sync with it.
