After using the microsoft recommended method to manually resize/shrink the primary OS partition by 250 MB in order to increase WinRE partition size so that you can finally install the new windows update 0x80070643 ERROR. This method completely messed up the new WinRE partition size because I think I forgot to disable the overprovisioning of my samsung SSD. The overprovisioning size of my SSD containing my OS was set to 20% and is now almost identical in size to the new WinRE partition size. So I know for a fact that the overprovisioning affected the new WinRE partition size. Microsoft should

KB5034441 0x80070643 error despite no WinRE volume

Like many Win10 users, I am getting the 0x80070643 error when I try installing the KB5034441 update. The claim everyone makes is that this is due to the WinRE volume not having enough space. But I don't even have a WinRE partition -- I've disabled WinRE and deleted its partition. What is going on here? And will a repair install help? I was considering doing a repair install for other reasons anyway. Is there a way to tell if a repair install would include KB5034441? If it didn't include it, I don't see the point.

    KB5034441 fails with error 0x80070643.

    Thank you.

I think 1 GB is enough.

I don't think you should make any changes now - a fix is on the way.

Devices attempting to install the January 2024 Windows Recovery Environment update ( KB5034441) might display an error related to the size of the Recovery Environment's partition. The Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) is used to repair or recover from issues affecting Windows.

Resulting from this error, the following message might be displayed.

    "0x80070643 - ERROR_INSTALL_FAILURE"

Workaround: It might be necessary to increase the size of the WinRE partition in order to avoid this issue and complete the installation. Note that 250 megabytes of free space is required in the recovery partition. Guidance to change the WinRE partition size can be found in KB5028997: Instructions to manually resize your partition to install the WinRE update.

Next steps: We are working on a resolution and will provide an update in an upcoming release.

    Affected platforms:

    Client: Windows 11, version 21H2; Windows 10, version 22H2; Windows 10, version 21H2

    Server: Windows Server 2022
