Windows 10: Windows Update 2004 and 20H2 error code 0xc190001a

I have been experiencing this issue pretty much all year while trying to update my fleet of Dell Optiplex and Latitude PCs to the latest Feature update via WSUS.

We are running Windows 10 Enterprise 1909 across the board. Happens across multiple models of Optiplex and Latitude computers. It also affects the Upgrade Assistant tool, same error 0xc190001a MOSETUP_E_UNKNOWN_CMD_LINE


I have run SFC /scannow and DISM /online /cleanup-image /restore-health


I have uninstalled our Cortex XDR AV program.


I have stopped Windows Update, Windows Installer, Crypto service, and BITS to rename the softwaredistribution and catroot2 folders.


I have updated all of the drivers on the PC as well.


Nothing seems to allow these systems to upgrade. They run other Windows updates with no problem, it is only related to feature updates.


I was finally able to use the Media Creation tool to make a flash drive for 20H2 and that worked to update one of my computers, but I don't want to go PC to PC in order to run this manually. I also don't want the same problem to come up again when 2104 is released next year.

If anyone has been able to get through this error I would greatly appreciate any insight. The nature of this error code makes me think WSUS is somehow passing a bad or outdated argument when it executes the update.

Also, WSUS is version 10.0.14393.2969

2004 update windows 10 error 0x80070002

Hello everyone,

thanks to some of the suggestions here and to some from other sources I have managed to fix the 0x80070002 error breaking up my feature update to 2004.

For completeness' sake and since it may help others, the following steps worked for me.

1. Download Media Creation Tool from Microsoft's official website
2. Create a bootable USB drive with the MCT
3. Boot up from this USB Drive
4. Choose install settings, click 'Next', but on the next screen select "Repair your computer" instead of "Install"
5. Choose "Troubleshoot" -> "Startup Repair" and let it finish
6. Restart into Windows and attempt the usual Windows update

It looks like the BCD on my computer had been damaged by the boot loader (Windows 10 + Recovery partition) and running the "Startup Repair" from the installation USB Drive corrected the errors.

Did i search about the ERROR: Yes, a lot!!

Did i run sfc /scannow or dism: Yes

Am i running Insider Build: No.

windows updates 20H2

Hi team...my most recent version is windows 10 20H2 , despite that the office 2010 32 bit updates are failing with the error code 0x80070643....i checked several times and updated office 2019 on my PC.

unable to find a solution, and it seems that if eventually that will fail....ultimately operating system clean install option will be the last remaining option, which I do not want to do.....

kindly suggest what to do?
