Windows Update 24H2 removed devices from Playback tab in Sound Properties

I have an HP Victus 15L gaming computer that came with an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Super with 6GB onboard RAM and came with Windows 11 Home, purchased in February 2023. My monitor does not have speakers onboard, so I have been using the normal 3.5mm jack Realtek sound connected to external speakers, and the monitor connected to the HDMI port on the graphics card. There have been 3 entries on the Playback tab in Sound Properties for sound via the Nvidia card since I got the computer, all disabled because the monitor has no speakers. I have explored either getting an adapter to connect this

    :)

    Hi,

Thank you for updating the status of your issue.

I appreciate for trying troubleshooting steps.

    2. Type services.msc and press Enter.

    3. Right click on Bluetooth support service and click on Properties.

This issue may cause when your device is not recognizing headphones.

    3. A new window will popup. From there, click on advanced tab. Click to pull down the menu in the Default format section and select any one of them.(There is no specific one that can be mentioned because this differs from system to system). After you have selected
any one, click on “test” button to see how perfectly the sound is coming.

And also I suggest you to try to Enable it manually in Sound Playback Devices.

Right click on device and click on enable.

    Check if it helps.

If the issue still persists I request you to uninstall and reinstall the Bluetooth device driver. Please follow steps below,

Windows Update 24H2 removed devices from Playback tab in Sound Properties

Latest Windows Update removed headset from sound Playback list

    Welcome to tenforums.
Agreed, this change by MS has been noted elsewhere.
Further, win key + s, sound does not find it, nor does playback.

    Suggestions:
    a. Use Open Shell Start menu (free). Searching for Sound finds it easily.
    b. Use 3rd party utility Volume2 - (e.g lets you control volume by scrolling when hovering over taskbar + mute with middle button and more). Free, well thought out.

Rt click the tray icon, option Playback Devices opens the Sound dialogue.
    c. Create your own shortcut - and put it in the Start Menu
