Windows Update and AppXSVC causing high CPU since a few weeks

This is a 8 months old Surface 7 with Win 10 Pro 1903.

Since a few weeks, without apparent reason, Windows Update and AppXSVC together use about 40% CPU steadily and turn the Surface red hot for about 10 to 20 minutes after every cold boot. Is that normal ????

I have already checked every possible settings to keep Windows Update and Windows Store under control I read elsewhere that while it is possible to avoid installing updates/auto-rebooting Windows during configurable hours - which I did- it is not possible to avoid Windows silently downloading updates at inconvenient times - a shame!

Windows Update is up-to-date and all settings under Advanced options are all disabled. Same for the Store app.

The problem is unrelated to the user logged in.

There are no visible issues in the Windows logs; no device or A/V malfunction.

I can't afford a system which hijacks the CPU for so long before I can fully use demanding apps.

    Please help !!!

Forgot to mention: only the CPU gets hot while these two services run wild, there is barely any activity on disk, or network: what are these services doing ?????

    :)

    AppXSVC service causing black screen

I am having the AppXSVC service causing a black screen after login. It happens very regularly, but not always, and more regularly one one of the two local user accounts than on the other one. The AppXSVC process is constantly using about 15% of CPU time.

    I am running Windows 10, 64 bit x86, version 1709.

I can disable the service by setting the Start = 4 in HKLM\SYSTEM/ControlSet001\Services\AppXSVC in the registry. My black screens do not appear with that setting. But this causes other problems, such as updates not installing, loss of Windows Store functionality.

Is there a way to make the service behave properly while running?

  3. WIN10 1703 update cause Explorer.exe high CPU usage

    Hi,

Glad you reached out. First, we would like to know if Explorer.exe
is the only cause of high CPU usage. Because the common cause of high CPU usage are the following:

    - Windows 10 Memory leak after the update.

    - Driver incompatibilities after the update.

    - Multiple startup applications

We'll be waiting for your update.

WIN10 1703 update cause Explorer.exe high CPU usage

    I am using Surface Pro 3 (i5, 8G RAM)

After WIN10 v1703 update, Windows Explorer uses ~30-40% CPU.

If I uncheck "Show thumbnails instead of icons" in the Performance Options, the CPU usage of Windows Explorer reduces to ~0%

Any suggestion why showing thumbnails cause so high CPU usage in v1703?

    Thanks!
