Windows 10: Windows Update and Resetting PC does not work

I recently had a power outage during a Windows update. When the power came back on, and I started my computer everything worked fine - except Windows Update no longer works. What happens is the update says it downloads and that I need to restart, however when I do so it says 0% updated for about 5-10 seconds before shutting off. When I restart the computer it says the update failed and it is undoing changes.


I have tried a number of solutions to this based on your guides:

• Restarted my PC many times
• Hard drive space - 40 gig free space
• No external hardware connected except mouse and keyboard
• Reset internet connection many times
• Ran the troubleshooter for Windows Update, both from the computer and downloading it from your website
• Ran DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
• Ran sfc /scannow this returned an error but when looking in the created log it listed no corrupted files

I even tried resetting my PC under the recovery options and even that failed after it downloaded, installed, and then restarted my computer.


I have run out of ideas on how to fix this without a complete reinstall, which seems like a waste since everything else is working fine.

When you finish testing the Avast suggestion, make sure that you restart your machine.

Then if the issue persists, please return to the trouble shooting list in post# 89

I think there are three steps that remain; the WU troubleshooter, reset WU components, and manual WU reset.

 

Windows update issues

It works, but I still need to fix it so that way I dont have to plug computers directly to the modem to get windows update to work. It was also blocking me from installing directx.

If you are having that message while trying to reset your computer, We suggest you to create an installation media for Windows 10 using Media
Creation Tool and perform a Reset.

Once the installation media is created, follow the steps below:

• Insert the installation media you created, and then restart your PC.
• On the Install Windows screen, select Repair your computer.
• On the Choose an option screen, select Troubleshoot. From there, you can use Safe Mode. Select
  Advanced Options >Reset This PC>Remove everything.
• After the reset is complete, check for status.
