Windows 10: Windows Update cannot download updates despite internet connection working

Hi,I'm having a strange issue where after a fresh install where I am connected to the internet and able to view web pages and download things but will not download any Windows updates. During install, I noticed that any time there were steps where I had to connect to Microsoft too a very long time or initially failed and had to retry. I also have other issues since reinstall where application installers take a very long time to load 10-20 mins sometimes.I tried getting latest drivers and bios updates from Acer and installed them all to no avail. I've even tried installing Linux lite and am h

If your wireless router has a built in firewall maybe it's somehow set to block the ports that Windows updates use?

I'd also suggest if it works with it being directly connected then you could try resetting your router to see if this fixes the issue.

Windows XP update and internet Issue

Hi guys, Ive been having an issue with every Windows XP machine that comes in when it comes to connecting to the internet and doing updates. Every time I do a fresh install it refuses to connect to the internet via automatic DNS server address. I always have to manually set it to googles address to be able to install drivers, or whatever else. This doesn't seem to matter if the XP machine is running SP2 or SP3 etc, just refuses to connect Automatically. Then if i go to Microshafts website to get more updates (even using googles address) it errors out and wont download the latest updates, its realy realy annoying.

Most times it will just automatically start downloading the updates but it either takes forever to start to do so or it just wont or it was a fluke i realy dont know.

If anyone knows what's the deal with this could help me out because waiting isnt what id like to do when i need the PC out the door asap.

Windows 10 Creators Update Might Force Updates Even on Metered Connections

A wording change in the latest build of the upcoming Creators Update for Windows 10 has users on metered connections worried. In previous Microsoft Insider's builds of the Creators Update, the section of the license agreement pertaining to automatic updates said "updates will be downloaded and installed automatically, except over metered connections (where charges may apply)."

In this latest build, the wording has been changed to a more worrisome version implying updating may still happen for important updates: "We'll automatically download and install updates, except on metered connections (where charges may apply). In that case, we'll automatically download only those updates required to keep Windows running smoothly."





Obviously, this implies critical updates and such may still be pulled from a metered connection without prior user consent. Considering many "critical updates" from Microsoft today come in the form of "Patch Tuesday" rollups often nearing a gig, this could get expensive on a metered connection where users pay by the gigabyte or worse.
