Windows 10: Windows Update Caused Audio to Only Come Through One Earphone

Hello all,


After updating Windows today, I found the sound of all apps Discord, any browsers, video games only coming out of the right earphone. When I troubleshoot with playback tests it works in both headphones, just not in any app that actually matters.


I have seemingly tried every troubleshooting option -- I tweaked sound balance settings changing balance fully to left ear makes the audio come in evenly, just VERY quiet, updated/uninstalled drivers, I even reverted my PC back to the previous Windows version. Nothing seems to work.


If anyone else has encountered this problem, or has any more ideas for troubleshooting maybe a specific driver I haven't tried yet? it would be much appreciated.

Windows 10: No Sound coming out of earphones (only speakers work)

It's a laptop (dual booting Win10[recently upgraded from win7 64bit] and Elementary OS Freya)

It's nothing to do with hardware issues

Earphones worked fine on my Elementary OS so my audio jack is definitely not broken or anything like that. Earphones work on my phone as well so i'm quite positive it's to do with windows 10 only.

No sound coming out of earphones

There's no sound coming out of the earphones, and I'm sure it's nothing to do with them because they work fine when I plug them into my phone. Also, I've tried another pair of earphones which resulted the same. However, the sound works perfectly without the earphones plugged into my laptop, the speakers are fine.

unsure if it's to do with drivers

I've tried uninstalling the Realtek HD audio drivers, reinstalling and nothing works.

However, I have Windows 10 but could only find drivers for Windows 7/8

I've googled a bit and most would suggest something like checking the playback devices but the only one on my list is 'Speakers'.

Realtek detected my earphones

When I plug in my earphones, Realtek detected them and even popped up the notification saying 'you just plugged a device into the audio jack'

as shown in the picture, when i toggle my mouse onto the black circle, it clearly detected something was plugged in, but somehow audio just won't play through my earphones.

 

Audio- No audio coming through earphones

I have recently built a PC and have installed the Realtek audio driver, but when I plug in earphones no audio comes out.

I have checked the "disable front panel jack detection" box yet they still don't work.

The earphones are detected in the sound control panel and are set as the default device.

I am using AKG Samsung earphones.

I just tried your steps. I uninstalled the "High definition audio device" driver as you mentioned and then restarted my laptop. This caused both my speaker and earphones to play sound at the same time. However, I then picked the "high definition audio device"
audio driver myself like you said and it is now only playing sound through my earphones. So, thank you very much for these steps. I hope it continues working like this.
