Windows 10: Windows update causing BitLocker recovery screen at startup

Hi all. I am having issues with my Lenovo Idea pad that I just recently purchased. After a recent update, I Turned on the laptop and was greeted with an error in bios and then it booted to the BitLocker recovery screen. I entered the recovery key as instructed and it sent me into a loop of booting and returning to that screen. I was able to do a little reset where I unplugged the power source and held down the power button for 1 minute, then plugged it back in and turned it on. From there I was able to enter the recovery key and successfully log in to my laptop. since then, every time I turn i

Please follow the suggestions below and check if you are able to boot to your desktop.

• Places to look for your BitLocker key:
  • On a printout you saved. Look in places you keep important papers.
    
  • Saved on a USB flash drive. Plug the USB flash drive into your locked PC and follow the instructions. If you saved the key as a text file on the flash drive, use a different computer to read the text file.
  • In your Microsoft account. To get your recovery key, go to
    BitLocker Recovery Keys.

• Or ask someone for help:
  • Ask someone with administrator privileges on the same PC to unlock it with their key.
  • If your PC is connected to a domain (usually a work or school computer), ask a system administrator for your recovery key

Win10 Bitlocker & UWF, bitlocker recovery screen caused by power cut ?

Hi, For one of our clients we create a Win10 image (version 1809) which uses UWF (Unified Write Filter) and Bitlocker to encrypt the total system disk. Bitlocker uses TPM and Recovery key. The Windows 10 is configured as kiosk device using ShellLauncher and boots UEFI safe boot. The particular device has no UPS and it is possible to shut the device down without shutting down Windows properly. Until now we had 2 or 3 devices that asked for Bitlocker Recovery key on startup. Typing in the Bitlocker Recovery key did start Windows. We would like to know why the Bitlocker Recovery screen pops up during boot but one might argument that the UWF should prevent possible problems. Help is appreciated.

1. Since when are you facing this issue?
   
2. Are you aware of any changes being made to the PC?
   
3. Which version of Windows is installed on the PC?
   
4. What is the make and model of the PC?
   

This issue can be caused if a BIOS/firmware update has been pushed to your PC either through Windows Updates or any other OEM media update.



If you have set up the Bitlocker on your PC, I suggest you to look for the recovery key on your Microsoft account. Also, you can refer the article
