    Windows Update deleting driver files?


    It seems like Windows Update is deleting files in folders such as System32/drivers and DriverStore, and so devices start failing to work properly. What leads me to believe that Windows Update is doing it is that everything seems to be fine until the Windows Update service starts running.

    Where do ati drivers go by default??

    i shoulda stated, i went through the registries and deleted a bunch of strings as per Erockers thread showing step by step what to delet and from where. thanks mussles ill search the windows update files.

    Hi!

    There seems to be a kind of a mess after deletion of your current driver.
    Have you tried step-by-step drivers update procedure including Driver Sweeper, deleting Prefetch and Temp folders, etc?

    C windows installer folder - Delete?

    He can do symbolic link redirection and move the files in it to a different location. *Wink Windows Update deleting driver files? ;)
    Better try it out in a virtual of first. Just a suggestion.

    Like:
    First move everything in c:\windows\installer to d:\installercache
    Then delete c:\windows\installer folder
    Then type this in command mode as admin
    mklink /d c:\windows\installer d:\installercache

    Removing those installer files is a bad idea. it might prevent you from updating or uninstalling apps.
