Windows 10: Windows update disables sleep

After recent Windows update on 12Mar21, my computer would no longer go to sleep. To fix the problem, I needed to Stop Windows Update service, then immediately Start Windows Update service again from the Services app Restart service did not work. After doing these 2 steps, there would no longer be an active procedure when typing Powercfg -requests from the power shell command line. It was also interesting to note that after Stop and Start of Windows Update service, there was a new update available after manual check for updates this was immediately following the automatic windows update completion. I then proceeded to load this update and sleep was still working.


This happened on the previous windows automatic update as well. I would prefer that Windows update did not require manual intervention on my part to allow the computer to sleep after update. Is there a way to fix this?

Does disabling the HID-Complaint Touch Screen driver resolves the issue? If yes, we suggest that you disable it and see if your device go into Sleep mode after a period of inactivity.

We also suggest to check if the settings of the Power Options of your device are set so that the device will go into Sleep mode after a period of time. You may follow the steps below to check is Sleep mode is enabled on your device:

• Press the Windows button + X, then click on
  Power Options.
• Click Change when the computer
  sleeps.
• Change the settings to your preferred settings.

Windows won't boot back up from sleep

Check your power settings in the BIOS. Windows 7 sleep mode works fine. I wouldn't suggest disabling it. Why have your system sucking air and spinning drive if your not using it. I have seen some issues with some input devises not allowing the system to go to sleep. But Drone mentioned it

Method 2: Disable the Wake timers

Follow the steps below to Disable the Wake timers:

• 
  Press Windows key +X.
  
• 
  Click on Power Options.
  
• 
  Click on edit Plan Settings and click on
  Change advanced power settings.
  
• 
  Expand Sleep option and “Allow wake timers" and set this to
  disable.
  
• 
  Restart the computer and check if issue persists.
