Windows 10: Windows Update does not recognize 10 Pro versus 10 Home

I continued to get a warning that my version of Windows 10 Home that came installed on my Dell laptop was reaching the end of its support and that I needed to upgrade.


I purchased an upgrade to Windows 10 Pro using Windows Update Assistant and which my system recognizes that it's using Windows 10 Pro. However the Windows update apparently continues to try and update the Home version which continually fails and I receive a message that the system is removing updates from my system, as well as continuing a warning that my version of Windows 10 is reaching the end of its support.


Why is this happening and what can I do to manage this continuing issue?


Frankly I consider Microsoft products to be a necessary evil that I simply have to accept and deal with. I am not a technically advanced person but can handle and understand the more straightforward issues, but this is extremely frustrating that a firm with such advanced capabilities can't effectively manage its products and associated update capabilities so that 'normal' users can do what they need to do.

Microsoft to make Windows 10 updates mandatory

Well, at the moment at least, you can choose to defer upgrades. Under Settings > Windows Updates > Advanced options you need to check the box labeled "Defer upgrades". What does that do? Good question. The answer I've found might illuminate it to a degree.

I hear this only applies to Pro and Enterprise editions. But I can't verify that.

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:
