Windows 10: Windows Update downloads older drivers

i have a laptop with windows 11, i5 8th gen and uhd 620. i recently found that my graphics card had very old drivers 27.20.100.8935, 28/10/2020 so i headed to intel website, searched drivers for my graphics card and downloaded the most recent one 31.0.101.2111, 19/07/2022 but windows update forces me to download the older version from two years ago. i can disable updates temporarily, but that can’t work forever as there will be for sure other updates that i’ll have to do. is there something i can to do keep this driver, or should i stick back to the older one?

How can I get older Windows drivers?

Sometimes a Windows update installs a new “buggy” driver for a device. So one of the steps I may try (after trying the typical steps, some of them listed below)…is to try installing an older version of the Microsoft driver.


I’d try what I said after the typical: downloading the driver from the manufacturer or reinstalling the driver or rolling it back or removing the update or restoring a restore point…

So I’m thinking of the best way to get and install an older Microsoft driver, these ideas occur to me:

- Boot your PC from an older Windows Installer and robocopy the driverstore folder to another drive (using the installer’s Command Prompt). Then boot Windows and use this copy of the driverstore folder to install the older driver from device manager.
- ..or install the older Windows on another PC and copy the driverstore folder from there..

Also: is there any other way to download older Microsoft drivers?

NVIDIA Adds Windows 8 to GeForce Driver Update Stack

AMD may have been the first to be out with drivers for its Radeon GPUs that are optimized for Windows 8 (WDDM 1.2), but NVIDIA went a step ahead of "special-releases" for its GeForce drivers, and added Windows 8 to its update stack, meaning that Windows 8 will feature in the list of operating systems to pick from, to download drivers. NVIDIA will constantly update these drivers along with mainline releases for Windows 7/Vista and XP. The latest such driver is 296.17. This driver supports GeForce and Quadro GPUs, and according to NVIDIA, is a quick-update over 295.73 WHQL, with the addition of performance optimization for Blacklight: Retribution.
