  1. Windows Update erases all my custom resolutions every time

On a Dell Optiplex 790 with Intel HD Graphics, every time Windows 10 "updates", it removes my monitor's (Dell E2211Hc) native resolution (1920x1080) that I have added using the Intel Graphics and Media Control Panel. Also, it removes 1600x900 which some games require.

Every single update, and I had to do this countless times now, I am required to readd both 1920x1080 and 1600x900 back to my system. Every update causes Windows to only have 1366x768 as the ONLY option for a display resolution.

It is getting ridiculous to have to add these resolutions, both of which my monitor supports, back in every time Windows 10 updates.

How do I make Windows keep these added resolutions after an update?

Also Windows Update likes to clear many folders in my 'appdata' folder including Notepad++. This is especially annoying as this is where it stores all my user settings including words added to the dictionary for Notepad++. Windows Update clearing folders in the appdata foler has caused me to need to re-enter serial numbers for a couple of programs as Windows Update cleared the appdata folder for those.

How do I prevent Windows Update from clearing those as well? It does not clear everything, it seems to "cherry pick" what to clear.

    :)

  2. Screen Resolution too big

    Hello,

Firstly, try to install all the available Windows Updates and check if it fixes the issue.

I suggest you to change the screen resolution settings and check if it fixes the issue. Follow the steps below:

    • Press Windows key and type Change Screen Resolution and click on the option listed.
    • Under resolution try changing the resolution settings.

Also try to install the latest drivers from the manufacturer website and check.

Hope this will fix the issue, if not let us know with the updated status and we will be happy to assist you further.

Windows Update erases all my custom resolutions every time

Windows Updated(16299.309).KB4088776 Restart is required to complete.

Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.

Thanks for the suggestions and for the time to respond Windows Update erases all my custom resolutions every time :) Best regards.

And thanks for the tip of that program, I'll have it on my list.
