Windows 10: Windows Update Error 0x800707e7

Hi there,I've been trying to update my Windows 10 from version 1909 to version 20H2 for months now. Every time I try it gets to around 30% and then fails. It then undoes the changes to my system and I'm back at where I started. I'm getting error 0x800707e7 and I've tried the troubleshooting steps of restarting Windows Update via cmd, using the media center to update manually, and probably other things I've forgotten. Issue with Windows 10 update - 0x800707E7 - 0x3000D

Recently I have tried to update my laptop to the latest version of Windows.

I followed the update instructions through the 'MediaCreationTool20H2' app, as per suggested by Microsoft member, but I keep receiving the same error (I have now tried 2/3 times).

Error Code: 0x800707E7 - 0x3000D

"The installation failed in the FIRST_BOOT phase with an error during MIGRATE_DATA operation"

System Model: HP Pavilion Power Laptop 15-cb0xx

Microsoft Windows Version 1803 (OS Build 17134.1345)

Could please someone help me solve this issue?

 

Error code 0x800707E7 - 0x3000D

I tried to update my pc from windows 10 pro version 1909 to version 2004 but every time I got the error code 0x800707E7 - 0x3000D. I tried all suggestions that Microsoft and other forums mentioned but it did not help. I disconnect all external hardware,
disable antivirus, use DSM, ...etc. but no help. Always getting the same error code. I use windows assistant and media creation tool but always getting the same error code. In my kids pc the update succeeded using media creation tool, and also succeeded in
my laptop with regular update. Could you please help me with upgrading my pc to windows 10 version 2004.

I understand that you are receiving an error, ‘0x800707E7 - 0x3000D’ when trying to upgrade from Windows 7 to 10. I’ll certainly assist you with the issue.



However, please let us know:

• How are you trying to upgrade to Windows 10?
  
• What is the make and model of the computer?
  
• Have you purchased a license for Windows 10?
  

You may want to refer the steps mentioned in the article Get help

Note: While performing chkdsk on the hard drive if any bad sectors are found on the hard drive when chkdsk tries to repair that sector if any data available on that might be lost.



We can try disabling third party drivers and services and see if that helps. Refer the steps mentioned below:



Hardware clean boot:



I suggest you to follow the steps mentioned below and disable the devices is Device Manager:

1. Press Windows key + R. This will open
   Run. Alternatively, you can go to Start and search for Run.
   
2. In Run dialog box, type devmgmt.msc and hit enter.
   
3. Now, expand Display adapters,
   Printers, Sound, video and game controllers one by one.
   
4. Right click on the devices inside the section and click on
   Disable device.
   
5. If asked for restart click on restart later and disable all the devices.
   
6. Close the device manager window.
   

Once all the devices are disabled, you can perform clean boot. Performing a clean boot will start the computer with minimal set of drivers and programs, to determine whether a background program is causing the issue. Some of the Startup programs will
not load after performing a clean boot on the computer. However, that functionality will return when you reset the computer to start normally after finishing the troubleshooting.



To perform a clean boot on the computer refer to the article How to perform a
clean boot in Windows.



After performing clean boot, proceed with the installation.



Note: Please refer the section Reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting
to boot the computer in to normal mode after troubleshooting.



If the issue persists, to identify the root cause of the issue, let’s try running Setup Diagnostic tool which will look for the exact reason of the error. Refer the article
SetupDiag
and share the log files after running the tool.
