Windows 10: Windows update error code 0x80080005

Hey,


As per the title, whenever I try updating windows I get an error.

So far I've tried every step in this guide: https://www.thewindowsclub.com/windows-update-error-0x80080005 but to no effect. the troubleshooter does not detect any problems, I have deactivated any thrid party anti-virus/malware program and deactivated windows defender/firewal. I tried to run cmd.exe /c takeown /f "C:\System Volume Information\*" /R /D Y && icacls "C:\System Volume Information\*" /grant:R SYSTEM:F /T /C /L, which again didn't make any noticeable difference. this returned successful except for 'failed processing 4 files'.

It may be worth mentioning that while going through the last step Reset SoftwareDistribution & Catroot2 folders, net stop wuauserv, net stop bits, and net stop msiserver returned an error, error, and '... was not running' respectively. when restarting these, net start wuauserv returned 'error code 2'. I am however reciting from memory as messing with the command prompt does make me nervous and the fact it didn't go smoothly makes me reluctant to just try again.

I am running windows 10 pro version 2004. just in case: OS build: 19041.329, experience: Windows feature experience pack 120.2202.130.0.

Windows Update Showing error (0x80080005) randomly

suggests the error number may occur where one of the OTHER drives has a problem.

Your specs don't say whether you have other drives installed.

Anyway, worth using Hard Disk Sentinel (trial) - the best text summary of such programs I've seen- to check your disks. Failing that check SMART params and do a surface scan with something else.

Sorry? Have you got the correct Tweaking .com's repair tool? Or followed the steps to the end where you actually do the numbered repairs?




- If you had followed all the steps I'd have expected it to take a bit longer.

I cannot send nor receive emails and get the error code 0x80080005. Any suggestions?
