    Windows Update Fails with 0x80070005 after upgrading Win7 to Win10?

    I have an older machine that I had kept on Windows 7 and I have just done an upgrade to Windows 10 1909 using the media creation tool. It seems to work perfectly fine, but Windows Update cannot run and always throws Error Code 0x80070005. I've read up on this and some suggestions are to use subinacl.exe to fix registry permissions on the trusted installer or other registry entries.

    I've tried to do that, but I'm running into a RegSetKeySecurity System Error 5 Access is Denied when trying to execute the following:

    Set OSBIT=32IF exist "%ProgramFiles(x86)%" set OSBIT=64 set RUNNINGDIR=%ProgramFiles% IF %OSBIT% == 64 set RUNNINGDIR=%ProgramFiles(x86)% subinacl.exe /subkeyreg "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing" /grant="nt service\trustedinstaller"=f

    I've also tried sfc scannow and DISM repair with no success. Also have cleared out the Software Distribution folder and checked all the windows update services to make sure they are running/starting and that has had no effect either.

    Any suggestion on how get the above script to work, or other ideas to get the updates working, would be much appreciated.

    :)

    Win10: windows update stuck at never ending loop ?

    When in win10:
    • Update&security -> Windows update -> Finding update... .... .... ....
    Planning to download the latest Win10.ISO (vers.1803) and manually update:
    - Then wait that my ordered new SSD arrives and clone the old HDD to it.

    win10 upgrade fails for Win7 desktop machine

    OK, so I'm running Win7 on a desktop, and Microsoft is pestering me to upgrade to Win10. I finally tell them to download the update, and it fails giving me a code. I click on the link to explain the code, and (surprise) the code is not in the list to
    be explained. I click on Microsoft FixIt to try to resolve the issue, and it says it couldn't fix the problems. So ... it makes me wonder. The two previous machines I upgraded had NO SUCH problems - one upgraded from Win7 and the other from Win8.

    Win7 Gateway Computer fails Win10 Upgrade

    I am covered under the late Win10 upgrade ending Dec 2017.

    I attempted 6 upgrades to Win10 -- all failing - each time trying to address a potential concern.

    Win10 Upgrade says that the computer is fully capable for the upgrade and begins downloading the files then moving in the installing process.

    The process totally locks up at 75% at which time a reset is applied. The computer restarts and continues to 81% thereby totally locking up again.

    The reset - restart at this point goes into Win7 Home recover mode.

    One of my attempts was to totally load a fresh version of Win7 from my installation disk and making sure the latest Win7 drivers were being used.

    A internet search suggested that this model of Gateway computer was not able to be upgraded to Win10 yet the Win10 upgrade process stated that all was well.

    Please note - no anti-virus - no programs - just a fresh Win7 installation.

    I did find some Win8 Gateway drivers available but did not load them as I did not know if that would break the Win7 OS.

    After one of the Win7 recovery process completed, Windows reported the upgrade failed do to error C1900101-4000D. A Internet search of the error code states it is do to a driver related issue - hence my concentration on drivers.

    I would like to upgrade this computer but I have no idea as how to proceed.

    Can some direction be provided.

    Thanks
