Windows 10: Windows Update for Vista

Windows Update for Vista-

The last update for my Vista was 9/16. Since that time my Windows Update has not worked. I know Microsoft ceased updates for Vista in 2017. In Nov. 2016 I stopped using my computer and started using it now (6/17).
The taskbar indicates new updates are available.

How can I get my Windows Update to work?

I'm getting the same error message too when installing the Software Updater and causing the installation to be failed.

FYI, I'm using Windows Vista Business.

I'm not sure what kind of updates you're looking for but here are some successfull updates that have been done recently on my laptop..just in case if these are what you're looking for.

Active Sync Errors After Windows Updates for Vista on December 12th Connecting to my Motorola Q

I have removed the partnerships and rebooted both devices prior to reconnecting and creating a new partnership. I still have the same problem. The sync process is producing an error every time and states that ActiveSync encountered an error on the desktop.
Please provide me with any other advice that you may have. Is there an update for ActiveSync that I can try to install. The problem has to come from the windows updates from last night. Below are the updates that installed:

Hi, to upgrade to Win 10 from Vista you need to do a clean install of Win 10.

Once using a current build of Windows, you should find Windows update is working.

No, sorry, exactly the opposite, I'm afraid, as per my first statement.

You can't upgrade your existing Vista installation, keeping all programs, to Windows 10.

The statement I read said:

"But Windows 10 will certainly run on those Windows Vista PCs. After all, Windows 7, 8.1, and now 10 are all more lightweight and faster operating systems than Vista is."

Perhaps I misinterpreted the sentence. However, I do realize you could not keep all programs, but the sentence seems to say Windows 10 will work on a Vista PC.

I've rehabbed several Vista machines and can affirm that Win10 may run on the same hardware, presently using a Dell Inspiron 530S with the Insider Preview, only issue was I had to add a video card as there were no Intel Win10 drivers for the onboard adapter.

I've also Upgraded a couple of Vista computers to Win7 w/SP1 using a Retail copy of Win7 Upgrade 3-pack then up to Win10.

 

There is a complete difference between
- whether Win 10 will run on a particular hardware configuration
and
- whether you can upgrade a particular Windows build to Win 10

The first is a matter of compatibility and available drivers.

The second includes that.. but also the upgrade procedure. Upgrading is the process by which you boot normally and launch setup.exe from your downloaded Win 10 (or this happens via Windows update). The consequence is you retain all your programs, settings and data, and continue work uninterrupted (if all goes well).

Having an appropriate license is a further matter. Nominally, the free upgrade offer expired a long time back. In practice, MS appears to be being more lenient.

Your original question was 'how do I get Windows update to work' - which seemed to imply you wanted to upgrade to Win 10 via Windows Update. As shown above, that won't happen.

However, if you install a current Windows build, hopefully Windows Update will function again.

Sorry I used the wrong terminology in my post. Instead of saying Windows to update, I should have said Vista to update. Now that you both have figured out my wording error, I appreciate your feedbacks. I now understand my options.
