  1. Windows update history shrinking over time

Does anybody notice or can they explain why entries in Windows update history start vanishing over time? I am referring to the update history in the modern GUI.

now I know a major update such as the anniversary update clears the history. But since then there have been a multitude of updates but over time the entries seem to disappear off the list. The oldest ones I have are for 13th September. I am sure that after this Tuesday's patches there were 9 entries on the list. Yet tonight I boot up and it's down to 7! It's just baffling. We have another PC which seems to have far more entries on it than our main machine, it even still lists the feature update (which it didn't receive til end August). Do entries expire over time? Would a new flash update, silverlight update or say malicious removal tool cause the older entry to drop off the list. It's kind of hard to explain but I hope that makes sense. I know it's not a major thing but it's bothering me slightly.

    cheers,
    Wayne

    :)

    Lumia-720 system size increasing

    Hi ,

This is by design and nothing can be done about it. Windows Phone maintains the System folder and it will grow and shrink over time. It should settle down after using the phone for some time (weeks or months).

Probably because they are cumulative updates, one update replaces another, even multiple ones.
I use Windows Update Mini Tool, which keeps the record straight, not that I care though.

  5. Thank you. I'm sure you are right. I will try to stop worrying about it.

i did just lose another entry though so it's down to 6. I believe it related to a flash update in September (the latest 11 oct one still shows). It wouldn't be so frustrating if my other machine was doing the same but it isn't. The other machine shows three entries relating to flash over the course of couple of 6-8 weeks among other updates. So my gripe is, why is one PC slowly shedding older entries from the list whilst the other is not? It would be easier to explain if my entire history was gone due to an event/reason rather than a gradual diminishing

    cheers, Wayne

  6. Now the entries relating to flash update and the cumulative update on 13th September have dropped off the update history list, it only goes back to end September now! In fact the windows update from 13 September has vanished from the uninstall / old style UI list too. Should this be happening? If an update is over a month old does Windows 10 purge it from the list. It's only happening on our main machine and seemingly not our other weak living room pc

  7. I am curious, what does your (or other people) update history look like (modern UI), do you have diminishing entries?

    Thanks,
    Wayne

I have none, since I do not use Windows Update. I can only show Installed updates.

In my case, clicking on Update history results in none. Clicking on Uninstall reveals five entries: two are Visual C redistr dated 2015 (x86 and x64), kb3176936 back in late Aug, Flash Player and kb3194798 this month.

I was checking to see if the latest update kb...409 might have self-installed despite my best efforts to prevent any automatic update. I had it set to Manual and not running. Somehow, an update was downloaded and installed! It is set to Disabled until I'm ready to Update. I'm at .321.

  10. Thanks for the feedback. Mine now shows 6 dating back to sept 13, the update on Monday is now on the list. It's just weird, why does one machine show the full update history since the anniversary update and why does one machine drop entries as they appear to go over approx a month old
