  1. Windows Update jacked my PC (I think)

I USED to have Windows Update enabled by default.

But between last night when I went to sleep, and waking up this morning, something went wrong with my Windows. I woke up to a blue screen saying a system exception wasn't handled, and that Windows needed to try to fix my PC. It said it fixed it, booted into Windows, Windows Update immediately started downloading something (Cortana-related stuff), and bam...blue screen again, same error. From that point, it was completely jacked: Every time I'd try to load in, it would just sit at the Welcome screen with the Welcome screen loading icon spinning, and do nothing.

So I disconnected my PC from the internet, turned the PC off, turned it back on, and turned it off again while it was trying to boot Windows to access Windows Repair. Restored it to a restore point from late November, and now it works fine. Completely disabled Windows Updates, reconnected to the Internet, and it's fine. Perfectly fine.

Has anyone had or heard about this problem recently? Cuz now I'm obviously worried about my hardware, but it doesn't feel like hardware. It feels like Windows Update jacked my PC.

  2. 3Colors Win User

Windows Updated(16299.309).KB4088776 Restart is required to complete.

Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.

Thanks for the suggestions and for the time to respond Windows Update jacked my PC (I think) :) Best regards.

And thanks for the tip of that program, I'll have it on my list.

  4. Windows Update jacked my PC (I think)

    Windows 10 fails to update

When you finish testing the Avast suggestion, make sure that you restart your machine.

Then if the issue persists, please return to the trouble shooting list in post# 89

I think there are three steps that remain; the WU troubleshooter, reset WU components, and manual WU reset.
