Windows 10: Windows update (KB 5405903)

I know it may seem trivial but i am an older user who really feel comfortable using that good old favourite Winamp to play my music files and to listen to music streams.


The problem i have is the latest update - 2019-07 cumulative update for windows 10 version 1903 for x64-based systems

has completely stopped Winamp from functioning.


When i launch Winamp it takes a minute to load and for some bizarre reason the modern skin does not display but the classic UI is all that is available.


The program also hangs and hangs and then hangs some more making it completely unusable


Has anyone encountered this issue? ... surely i cannot be the only one to have this problem


I love this low resource piece of programming genius and want to keep on using it so i need a solution or a workaround to stop Windows updates from doing this to older software.


this is not the first time an update has stopped winamp from working (I had Winamp 5.5 for many years and it worked flawlessly but then an update did the same thing and only the long awaited update to winamp to version 5.8 cured that).


Can anyone help?!!!!!

Windows 10 Update

Well just noticed a pretty large one pop up coming in at 914MB, seems it makes some pretty serous updates.

Windows updates won't install!

I had the same problem when i repaired my O/S, i forgot the steps on how to fixed it, but it is in the microsoft support forum.

You have to reinstall the windows updater, then restart the updating service.

Method 1:

I suggest you to run the Windows Update troubleshooter and check if it helps.

1. Click on search bar next to Start Menu.

2. Type “Troubleshooting” without the quotes and click on
Troubleshooting.

3. Click on View All on the left panel of the screen.

4. Click on Windows Update

5. Click on Next and follow the prompts to run the troubleshooter. Restart the PC and check.

If the above steps doesn't work, try the below automatic Windows troubleshooter
and check if it helps.

If the above steps doesn't work try the below.

Method 2:

I would suggest you to manually reset the Windows update components and check if it helps.

Reset Windows update components.

Resetting Windows Update Components will fix corrupt Windows Update Components and help you to install the Windows Updates. Please follow the below steps to reset the Windows Updates Components manually:

• Press Windows Key + X on the keyboard and then select “Command Prompt (Admin)” from the menu.
• Stop the BITS, Cryptographic,
  MSI Installer and the Windows Update Services. To do this, type the following commands at a command prompt. Press the “ENTER” key after you type each command.
  
  • net stop wuauserv
  • net stop cryptSvc
  • net stop bits
  • net stop msiserver
• Now rename the SoftwareDistribution and
  Catroot2 folder. You can do this by typing the following commands in the Command Prompt. Press the “ENTER” key after you type each command.
  
  • ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
  • ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 Catroot2.old
• Now, let’s restart the BITS, Cryptographic,
  MSI Installer and the Windows Update Services. Type the following commands in the Command Prompt for this. Press the
  ENTER key after you type each command.
  • net start wuauserv
  • net start cryptSvc
  • net start bits
  • net start msiserver

5. Type Exit in the Command Prompt to close it.

Now you may try running the Windows Updates and check if the above steps resolve the issue.
