    Windows Update KB5021233 - Causes Severe Performance Issues with WSL Integration for IntelliJ


    Hello,The recent Windows Update KB5021233 causes serious performance issues with WSL integration for IntelliJ Idea. When saving a file inside the IDE the UI freezes for ~45 seconds. After reaching out to JetBrains support, they notified me that they cannot fix the issue and that the Windows Update causes the problem. Here is the message from their support rep:The issue seems to be with the A/V monitor affecting I/O performance of the WSL and the exclusions not working properly. If you tell Microsoft that KB5021233 is causing the problem and link them to https://github.com/microsoft/WSL/issues/

    2022-12 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5021233) keeps failing repeatedly. Windows Update Troubleshooter tool shows no issues

    The WMI repository seems to be corrupted, as the following line indicates:

    - - -

    000009a4 (F) Installer: Mof Binary Name: cmiadapter.dll ErrorCode: 80041002 Phase: 32 Mode: Install (upgrade) Component: Microsoft-Windows-NetworkProfile-CIM, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35, ProcessorArchitecture=amd64, versionScope=NonSxS[gle=0x80004005]

    - - -

    Please backup the WMI repository by running the following command from Admin Command Prompt.

    • winmgmt /backup c:\wmirepository.bak
    And then run:

    • winmgmt /salvagerepository
    Then follow the instructions under the "How to rebuild WMI repository" section in this Acronis article. (Skip other parts of the article.)

    Post back the errors, if any, when following the above steps.

    Restart Windows.

    Download the KB5021233 offline installer from the following link:

    2022-12 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5021233)

    windows10.0-kb5021233-x64_00bbf75a829a2cb4f37e4a2b876ea9503acfaf4d.msu

    Double-click the MSU file to install the update.
