Hi,I'm trying to permanently disable Windows Update on a Windows 11 Pro 24H2 PC that will not be connected to the internet.I have alreadyWindows Update keeps reverting settings after being disabled via services and registry :Disabled the Windows Update service via services.mscAdded the NoAutoUpdate DWORD in the registry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU and set its value to 1However, after a short time, the settings are reverted — the Windows Update service gets reset to "Manual Trigger Start", and the NoAutoUpdate value disappears or has no effect. Is there a reliable way to permanently disable Windows Update in Windows 11 Pro 24H2 so th

    Windows 7 services

You should just know which services to set to manual, there are a ton of them, starting with xp. The time service is the first one... unless you set it up properly, just disable it. Then remote registry, I don't need anyone else messing with my registry... disable, I don't use themes, disable, there are a few others too, then things like adobe update service, not needed, disable... it's not that hard to figure out what you can disable, or at least put to manual.
Edit: if you need suggestions, get The Ultimate Troubleshooter, not free, but it will show you how to do much of this.

Changes made in Registry, Services or Settings not saving

    Hi, suggestions:
    1. Disable Fast startup.
How do I enable or disable fast startup?

    • Type Control Panel in the search box.
    • Click Control Panel.
    • Click Power Options.
    • Click Choose what the power buttons do.
    • Click Change settings that are currently unavailable.
    • Scroll down to Shutdown settings and uncheck Turn on fast startup.
    • Click Save changes.

    2. There have been cases where an old version 3rd party program has caused settings to revert on rebooting. E.g. winzip, albeit when setting file type association defaults.
    3. Registry permissions problems.
You could try Tweaking.com's free cautious repair tool, selecting only the relevant registry permissions repair.

You might also compare results when working in Safe Mode.

    For more: Google search
    registry change revert on reboot
    gives many results.

Windows 8 failure configuring updates and reverting

I agree 8 is awful! It's not for me though... I replaced a broken screen in a Win 8 laptop that was given to me and I am going to give it for free to someone that can't afford one so they can do homework at home. Yes I took it from 8 to 8.1 back on 10/09/2014. This is what I posted there...

"Great post! I found a similar one. I would like to point out that you may want to edit your OP...

    1. Step 1 should read to disable AUTOMATIC updates, not disable manual updates.

    2. KB2871398 should really read KB2871389

I would like to say that KB2917499 may also be needed as it was in my case. I also had to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter after installing those 2 updates. After these steps I was able to begin my 8.1 download from the Microsoft store. I don't know if it made a difference or not, but I also went into the Bios and disabled "Secure Boot."

It was a helpful post. Thanks!
