Windows 10: Windows Update keeps trying to install unneeded .NET updates — and keeps failing and thus...

Windows 10.0.17763.2366 64-bitInstalled .NET this day as follows:While .NET 5.0.12 KB5007884 was already installed, WU started a few days later, out of the blue, trying to install the previous version; i.e. .NET 5.0.11 KB5007051.It kept failing with error code 0x80070643, and at the same time keeping the whole Windows Update mechanism hostage — as WU wouldn't do anything other than keeping trying again and again to install 5.0.11 KB5007051 on top of 5.0.12 KB5007884; see image below.This issue was impossible to rectify, and the only way out eventually proved to be the availability of .

Windows Update keeps failing!

Hi all,
for some reason i can't update my win7 anymore... it downloads and instals perfectly but then when i reboot and its configuring updates @ startup it says fail to configure microsoft windows update bla bla bla.... i've tried the following solutions which don't work.

1. selecting and installing updates 1 by 1.
2. I downloaded some kb update that is supposed to prepare the machine for win7 sp1.
3. downloaded microsoft fix it.
4. tried to install win7 sp1 directly... no go, same error as with the other updates...
5. installed and updated win software (.net, windows installer, vcredist)

i had this same issue a couple of months ago. but that was related to .net not properly configured, that is not the case with this..
Sure i can disable windows update. but then again this topic is useless if i want that solution *Stick Out Tongue

 

Windows Update keeps failing!

It's possible you have a program blocking your updates. I would restart the machine and go into "safe mode" and install the updates. You can get into "safe mode" at startup by pressing "F8" and selecting "Safe mode". You can pre-download updates from Microsoft or you can go into "Safe mode with Networking" and download them once you are in "safe mode", but if you just select "safe mode" you will not have network/internet. *Toast :toast:

 

Windows Updates failed to instal

I just did step one and they have just all installed.... thank you so much.... it was quite frustrating having that update window pop up every 5 minutes and failing to instal every time
