Windows 10: Windows Update never completes. Gets to 91 percent and no further.

I'm running Windows 10 Pro on two HP desktop computers. They are both running Version 1909, OS Build 18363.1256.

They nag and nag at me to run the updates and when I do, it goes all day and gets to 91%, then it runs all night and the next day but never gets beyond 91 %. I eventually have to get work done so I power it down.. It restarts and spends about 20 minutes removing whatever has been done of the upgrade.


The other HP does exactly the same thing I have described above. I have tried the update again when offered but with the same result on both computers. I don't understand why Microsoft can't made an upgrade that works.

Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.

Windows 10 updates stuck at 91% for 7 hours

I suggest you to hard reboot the computer and perform the below.

Method 1:

Step 1: I suggest you to uninstall the anti-virus software installed on your device and check for the updates.

If the issue still persists,

Step 2: I suggest you to
run the Windows Update troubleshooter and check.

Windows Update Troubleshooter resolves problems that prevents you from updating windows.

Steps:

• Press Windows key and type
  Troubleshooting.
• Click on Troubleshooting and click on
  View all in the left pane.
• Select Windows Update to run theWindows Update Troubleshooter
  and follow the on-screen instructions.

If the issue still persists then,

Method 2: I suggest you to try the steps mentioned in
Reset Windows Update components
and check if you are able to find the Windows Updates.
