Windows 10: Windows update on 1.28.21 won't restart

Did a scheduled update last night, 1.28.21, and haven't been able to restart since. Have read all the nightmare scenarios to get computers started, can't wait! Windows updates always cause some problems but this one is absolutely the worst! All I get when powering on and off is a brief Windows logo then a black screen. Once I got the blue screen saying there was a restart problem no kidding! and that the laptop would be restarted. That was a lie of course. Sounds like I'm in the reboot loop problem that others describe. This is a 2012 HP Pavilion laptop, not sure if I still have the installation disc anymore. Any suggestions? Why would anyone want to ever install another Windows update when they render your computer unusable!

Windows updates won't install!

I had the same problem when i repaired my O/S, i forgot the steps on how to fixed it, but it is in the microsoft support forum.

You have to reinstall the windows updater, then restart the updating service.

Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.
