Windows 10: Windows Update overwrites a new AMD driver to the 15.11 one

Hello reader,

I use Windows10 home with a AMD R7 370 and want to install the new drivers 17.6.2 or whatever was the newest one.

But Windows doesnt want this and thinks that the 15.11 one is the newest one, so WU forces this 15.11 update.
I started a thread on the AMD forums and was suggested to open up one here.

My Problem:
Windows installs this folder "C:\AMD\WU-CCC2"
And inside "C:\AMD\WU-CCC2\ccc2_install" this script called "LaunchWLApp.bat" gets launched.
start %SYSTEMDRIVE%\AMD\WU-CCC2\ccc2_install\WULaunchApp.exe "-ReInstall"

In this folder there is a WUCNLog.log file with this ontop:
"Log file created and initiating the pcrocess... --This is the original text, not my typo
Starting the process..
Checking for previous instances of CCC installed through WU.
Check for any CN instance, installed through CIM.
Found CN instance installed through CIM.
Successfully uninstalled CN instance which is installed through CIM."

I dont have a clue how to fix this, I think someone forgot to include a "stop" in a script that
keeps looping itself and prevents me from upgrading to the new driver.


What I already have done:

• Removed Drivers through the Control Panel
• Removed all remaining folders and files
• Removed left over registry entries
• Runned amdcleanuputility.exe
• Used DDU
• deinstalled my GPU drivers from the device manager
• Run a windows tool to show and hide Windows updates, to block them from downloading
• Used many Reg entries to block WU from updating
• Done this all in safe mode

AMD Switchable Graphics in Windows 10: no HDMI + black screen in games

15.11 beta fixes the bug!!!

Just installed it and ALL my games are working now! On High Performance Card!

1. Used DDU to clean AMD drivers and Intel drivers.

2. Then used windows update to load latest Intel, AMD and AMD HDMI Audio drivers.

3. Manually Updated to 15.11 beta downloaded from AMD

4. All games working perfectly!

 

Thread Stuck In Device Driver Error

Hey, sorry for being late, had no internet connection for 4 days.

I tried with another account, and recently I reset my Windows 10. But the problem persists. As soon as I enable the AMD driver (tried with the last working driver, 15.9.1 beta, 15.7 and 15.11), there is a spike in the CPU usage of System Interrupts and a
potential BSOD (last one after OS reset and driver install was DPC_Watchdog_VIolation one).

 

Try to disable driver updates with this:

Check, if the display adapter's driver is removed via DriverStore Explorer.

 

(Grafikkarte stands for GPU)
I forced deleted the outdated driver with DriverStore Explorer, run DDU and the AMD cleaning tool, installed the new one and windows update installed the outdated one again.

I used your reg entries









But wasnt sure how to disable this one

 

In that case, try to Roll back the driver, Windows should not install that version again afterwards.

 

Should I rollback with the Device Manager, or should I install the original file?

 

I did this, and now there is a funny thing.

The software says its on the 17.6.2 version, but everything else is still 15.11.
So this is going on the right way, I think.

 

v15.x.x are "legacy " drivers for HD 7xxx series AMD GPUs. R5/R7 2xx cards were renamed HD 7xxx but R5/R7 3xx were completely different and shouldn't even work with legacy drivers. Until couple of weeks ago I had R5 260 card and 17.1.1 drivers were working fine.
Did you try Download TechPowerUp GPU-Z | techPowerUp to see what exactly is going on ?

I dont have ReLive or anything else from the new driver.
But it says that its on this version and no, the hotkeys dont work.

 

Just which program says that you have v15.11 ?
The first numbers in CPU-Z under "Driver version" (22.19.171.257) should also be in device manager.

The problem I have is that only the version number in the software has changed, but not the software itself, I cant explain it better.

It seems that only the driver packaging version has changed, nothing else

 

Still don't know where are you finding that " 15.11" number.
