windows update pc crash-system restore-can't locate xcel file

On 7/2 apparently Microsoft must have an update & bypassed my bypass password edit I had set up. As a result I got locked out & no way to log on. I called a geek squad on 7/4 in the state of TN & after 3 hours he managed to provide me with some reset code which I uploaded to a usb on my 2nd pc. All but Office 365 loaded up in 3 hours. I was told my personal files would be coded windows.old. Took a while to find it, began working on sheet yesterday & saved every 5 minutes. At some point the system gave me a response error that system could not save. I left the machine on all night as was afraid to close it. This is a 20 page workbook. I installed file plus viewer & can't seem to find the updated sheet that I worked on Friday night. Nada. I have tried following forum instructions about recovery, saving to drives, turning on autosave. I cannot find any of these buzzwords. I am told by the tech that much of their recent business has been with these resets. MS does not inform anyone of these security fixes. Most people cannot recall a zillion passwords & can't read these crazy letters. MS does not provide a reset template that is advertised right on their site given the number of people now having this problem all b/c the govt. told the company to tighten security. On top of that I had to go find another Office 365 & found that MS is now going to subscription but I bought the home edition instead. There are still so many patches to the operating code & problems with how the mice is working & now this charge. The company is going downhill because it is no longer thinking of the customer. Anyway I tried to follow the instruction of turn on file history. The box does not light up. I put in a usb drive. Nada happens. You guys put this product out on the market & you didn't pass it thru qc first. The number of hours & money I have spent this week leads me to believe that Apple is the future.

    :)

System Restore - System restore failed to extract the file ...... (0x8007005) error

    Hi Loucille,

One of the possible reasons why the error code 0x8007005 occurs when performing system restore is due to corrupted system files that caused software conflicts. Since you have tried several steps to resolve the issue, we recommend that you
perform a System Restore in safe mode. To boot your device in
safe mode kindly click on this link. This will start Windows in a basic state, using a limited
    set of files and drivers.

Once done, we suggest that you perform a system restore after booting in safe mode. System Restore will be able to revert your PC or laptop to their previous state, which can be used to repair and recover system malfunctions or issues. Restoring won’t affect
your personal files, but it will remove apps, drivers, and updates installed after the restore point was made. To do this, follow the steps below:

    • Right-click the Start button, and then select Control Panel.
    • Search Control Panel for Recovery.
    • Select Recovery > Open System Restore > Next.
    • Choose the restore point related to the problematic app, driver, or update, and then select Next > Finish.

If in case that the issue persists, we suggest that you run the System File Checker tool. This will be able
to scan for corruptions in Windows system files and restore it. We also suggest that you run the DISM command to repair the Windows image on your system. Follow the steps provided
on this link for the complete guide on how to use
    the tool.

Please post back with the result.

Restoring the PC has removed most files for Windows 10 apps.

    Hello Sandra,

Thank you for replying with the detailed description of the status.

    Please reply:

    • Did you perform System Restore on the PC?

    • Have you taken the back up of all your files and folders before restoring the PC?

Windows has a built-in anti-virus software installed on your device called
Windows Defender after you upgrade to Windows 10. Windows defender works just like other anti-viruses that are available in the market.

Method 1: Since the files are located in Program files at
C: drive you will not have control to delete the Kaspersky files as it is a system controlled files.

I suggest you to download the Removal tool to uninstall Kaspersky files from the link below and check if the issue is resolved.

Removal tool for Kaspersky Lab applications (kavremover)

Method 2: If the issue persists, I suggest you to perform Undo System Restore option by following the steps below and check if the issue is resolved.

    • Press Windows logo + X keys on the keyboard and select
      System option.

    • Select System protection from the left side panel of the window and click on
      System Restore.

    • Check Undo System Restore option and follow the on-screen instructions.

    • The PC will restart. Check if the changes are effective.

Note: Take back up of all your data before performing
Undo System Restore. Performing the above steps, PC will
    restart
immediately for the effective changes to take place. After the PC is restarted and is at Desktop, click on
Close and continue using the OS.

Write back to us with the status of the issue for further assistance. Your reply is important for us to ensure we assist you accordingly.

    Thank you.
