Windows Update removes my Primary Audio Source

I have been struggling with this issue for quite some time. The new service update for Windows 10 leaves my computer in a position where, after the update, for no apparent reason, my main Audio Source is no longer recognized by windows.

After realizing it was the update causing my sound to disappear, I un-updated, but Windows forced me to re-update on six separate occasions. I finally had found a means of restoring before the update and not allowing Windows to update again, and I stayed like that for several months, hoping a new update would fix it.

Just recently, when I realized Windows was having difficulty with my webcam, causing a variety of debilitating and inexplicable crashes and bugs with various webcam related services, I tried to troubleshoot that. The Windows GetHelp suggested I update windows first, and then it would be able to troubleshoot. I did.
The webcam still didn't work, and none of the rest of the troubleshooting helped, and now my audio device was gone again too. I don't even care about the webcam anymore, I just want my sound back.

I have an audio interface connected to my computer, an HTC Vive with a speaker, and some extra audio sources for Steam's streaming services, and even a virtual audio source, and they are all unaffected. But when I update, the speakers that I labelled "Primary Sound Device" disappears from the list of devices.

The audio troubleshooter can't help me, as it does not even show up in the list of devices to troubleshoot. Uninstalling/reinstalling the drivers can't help me, as the device doesn't show up in the list of devices. I have tried the SFC, and no issues are found. It is incomprehensible.

Someone who knows what's happening, please help.

    :)

  2. My Windows Audio is a Mess

Hi there Punchcard, I will be your Independent Advisor for today, I hope we can both resolve your problem.

What I would suggest for now is to completely remove the Audio drivers listed in the Device Manager. Please make sure you remove all listed under Sound and audio devices.

Here is how to do it.

Here the steps to completely remove a Device off your computer.

Step 1. Use shortcut keys Win + X on Windows 10.

    Step 2. Select Device Manager.

Step 3. Expand the entry Sound and Audio. Right-click the problematic device and select Uninstall device.

Step 4. You may need to check the option Delete the driver software for this device, and then click the Uninstall button.

    Step 5. Reboot the computer.

And then please see if there are any improvements.
