    Windows Update ruined my laptop


    My last Windows update took a really long time, and now my only option is reseting Windows. My laptop came with Windows 8 or 9, which is what is on my backup disc set. I also will lose my Office 2016 because you have to reinstall all the apps even if you retain your files. Is there anything else I can try that isnt reseting Windows? I tried to uninstall the most recent updates, but that failed multiple times.

    I will gladly dispose of any "ruined computer" that Windows 10 has "ruined". Just ship them to me and I will take care of disposing of the "ruined" hardware!

    Automatic driver update ruined my laptop

    Hi,

    Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

    I would suggest you to Rollback to the previous update using the Device Manager

    Follow the steps to update the Graphics Card drivers:

    • Press Windows key + R key. Type "devmgmt.msc" and click
      Enter.
    • Expand Display Adapter
    • Double-click on the Graphics card.
    • In Properties, go to Drivers Tab and click on
      Roll Back Driver.
    This driver update might show up again in the Windows Update. Therefore, you can prevent it from installing by following the steps mentioned in the below article:

    Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.
