  1. Windows update seems to have made my monitor disconnect during boot

I have a monitor problem that started immediately after a Windows update three days ago. During the boot sequence, after the BIOS phase and partway through the Windows phase, the monitor loses signal and switches into power saving mode.

Hardware: Dell Precision M4700 laptop with NVIDIA Quadro K2000M graphics.

I use it in two locations, each with a different 24" Dell monitor, in one case via DVI-D and the other via DisplayPort. This is important, because it shows it has nothing to do with the monitor or the particular way the laptop is connected up. Each setup has been working just fine for a couple of years at least. I power on and immediately close the lid; the BIOS displays come up on the external monitor, followed by the Windows stuff and finally the login screen.

Suddenly a couple of days ago it started failing, about 75% of the time. It gets as far as the first part of the Windows boot, then displays "entering power save" and that's that. I have to open the laptop lid and use that screen to go through the shut down sequence. I try again and again and finally I get through the Windows boot and all is well. I have just installed the latest NVIDIA driver without the fault going away. It may be relevant that during the driver installation the external monitor went blank, displayed the "entering power save" message, and never came back to life. I had to open the laptop lid and use that screen to recover.

The update I suspect has caused the problem is "2019-04 Update for Windows 10 Version 1083 for x64-based Systems (KB4023057)".

    :)

Primary monitor blacks out after disconnecting from external

    Hi Oscar,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community forums.

    • Are you aware of any changes that happened on the computer prior to this issue?

This issue could be due to the display setting corruption that only affected the primary display when disconnected from the secondary.

I suggest you to try the steps listed below and check if it works for you:

    • Press ‘Win + R’ keys on the keyboard together to open the Run dialog box and type the following into the Run box:
      appwiz.cpl
    • Uninstall Intel HD Graphics Drivers and exit
      Programs and Features.
    • Right click the Windows icon on the taskbar and choose
      Device Manager
      .
    • Expand Display Adapters and right click on
      Intel HD Graphics Display Driver.
    • Click on Uninstall and check the box
Delete the driver software for this device.

    • With the external monitor connected, reboot the machine.
    • Once the machine boots into the desktop, disconnect the external monitor and check if the issue persists.

    Hope it helps.

    Regards,

Windows 10 Update - Now my dual monitors do not work

    Hi,

One of the possible reasons why Windows 10 was unable to detect your dual monitor is an outdated or incompatible graphics driver. To best address your concern, we need you to answer the following questions:

    • Which Windows 10 build are you using?
    • Have you already tried performing the troubleshooting steps suggested by
Mauro Cavallin on June 16, 2017?
    • Are both of the monitors not working just like what the original poster was experiencing? If yes, have you tried disconnecting one of the monitors? What was the outcome?
    • What troubleshooting steps have you done so far?

We will be waiting for your response.
