Windows 10: Windows update stuck at 35%, cannot reboot in safe mode/repair

Just want to put it out there immediatly, it's my girlfriend's laptop so I am not 100% sure of everything that was done for this problem to occur.

She told me she was updating the computer, and it seemed stuck at 100% for 10 minutes. She decided to reboot the computer (wether she should have or not is... another debate). When the computer restarts, it immediately shows the "preparing" phase, and after 5 seconds, it switches to "Configuring Windows updates, 35% complete, do not turn off your computer" (no progression to the 35... just.. jumps directly to it and stays stuck there)

What has been tried :
- Rebooting : Same result
- Rebooting in safe mode : Same result (but with bad resolution hehe)
- Rebooting in "Startup interrupt menu", choose temp startup device, USB windows 7, Troubleshoot
- - System Restore : No restore points have been created on your computer's system.
- - Go back to previous version : We ran into a problem and won't be able to take you back to the previous version of Windows. Try resetting your PC instead
- - Startup Repair : Startup repair couldn't repair your PC. Press Advanced options to try other options to repair your PC.

Anything further than that and i'm outside my competences.

If anyone can help me, i'll try to answer as precisely as I can to your questions.

Windows 10 was stuck uploading an update, thensystem unloaded it, and it is stuck at unloading! Help can't get to safe mode

Windows 10 tried to do an update. It got stuck at 71%, rebooted several times. Now system is trying to unload, and it is stuck again. I cannot get it to start in safe mode at all. Help

 

Automatic repair

Inspiron all-in-one will not boot. Stuck in automatic repair mode loop. Every restart goes directly to automatic repair and then cannot repair. Tried bolting in safe mode but cannot find safe mode anywhere so I can establish a network connection to troubleshoot.
Any ideas?

 

If you are doing the download install, it tends to get stuck and you have to shut down or wait forever. A hard reset and then boot up with the ISO, has worked for everyone. Anytime you do a upgrade, you need to back up the files on the computer, so that you do not lose files. Same goes with making sure the OS is not having any issues before the upgrade.

 

So... what do i do now that none of this has been done?

 

None of what has been done? You get a copy of the ISO by downloading CU and burning it, then put the computer into Repair mode when you turn it back on from a cold state.

It takes about 4 hours, sometimes longer, for a standard Laptop to update with the 1709 update and that appears to stall at numerous % points, several Restarts, however it is still updating and will get there eventually.
By interrupting that it will take longer.
Switch it on and let it get on with it.

 

No i mean none of the safety measures has been done ( backing up, restore point, etc )
but i did try to restore with the methods mentioned earlier

It took about an hour for the upgrade on the desktop that I have it running on. It all depends on the housekeeping, what programs may not be compatible, if there are any issues that have not been fixed by the OS. The Housekeeping is the longest part. You can do it from within the Powershell or Command, without the MCT. Just easier to keep a clean system that you know that there may not be programs with issues that can cause it to stall.
