Windows 10: Windows Update; Unable to install HP Laserjet Printer M28-M31 Update, installation problem...

My Operating system is Windows 10. I am using HP laser jet Printer M28-M31 connected to my Sony PC Laptop. During routine updates checking through settings>update & Security, the following message is displayed


Error encountered:


A current driver on your PC may be better than the driver we are trying to install. We will keep trying to install.


Hewett Packard USB 6/1/2018- 46.2.2631.18152

Status Download error-0x800f020b


Status pending install



With the above message popping up in the windows 10 update screen, the HP printer update of 2018 is not installing the update and shows installationpending


I discussed with the Staples store where I purchased the printer and the technical manager is unable to resolve this issue. Do not know the reason why the installation is not taking place and shows installation error. Obviously the update was downloaded, but it shows installation pending

Install HP LaserJet 4M Plus

Printer is connected to router with EtherNet cable, was able to print test page which gives IP Address of: 10.0.0.81, and did find drivers but attempting to install with any of the LaserJet 4 drivers listed below, gives the error message, "Printer Driver was not installed".

This printer has both Postscript and PCL personalities.

Thumbnail sketch of what I did:

Settings>Devices>Printers & Scanners>Add Printer and Scanner>[Clicked on the text, "the printer I want isn't listed"]>chose "Add a local printer" using existing port 10.0.0.81>did Windows Update and each of the following LaserJet drivers for this model of printer failed to install:

HP LaserJet 4 Plus
HP LaserJet 4/4M Plus PS 300
HP LaserJet 4/4M Plus PS 600
HP LaserJet 4/4M PS
HP LaserJet 4/4M PS (300 dpi)


the USB port mentioned in the 400 day old post on this topic was not a choice.

rig is an i9 7900X running at 4.5GHz w/32 GB Ram with an Asus X299 MOBA.

 

Unable to install HP Printer software.

Still getting the following error message

call to driverpackageinstalll return error - 536870347 for package c:\program files (x86)\hp\hp laserjet mfp m28-m31\driverstore\YetiV4\hypclms26_V4inf: The 32 bit version DIFzAPI does not work on WIN64 sys. A 64-bit version of DIFxAPI is required.

I verified that the OS Windows 10 Home is 64 bit. Right-click on This PC then left click on properties.

The printer software fails at step 1. giving that error message when clicking on details.

I tried installing the 32 bit just to see what happens the same issue.

I tried sfc /scannow as well as

the following command as an administrator in DOS

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealt

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

Also tried factory reset on the Surface Pro X

Still havig the same issue.

Is it possible that the OS on Surface Pro X is corrupt?

What Windows 10 build are you current on. Is this a new purchase or has it worked previously.

Type winver in Search and select the top result to find your build.
