Windows 10: Windows Update - WOF driver encountered a corruption?

Got error code 0x800f0984 in Windows 10 during 22H2 update--which failed. DISM shows there is driver corruption -- gives "Windows Update - WOF driver encountered a corruption"See a number of ongoing threads with no confirmed approach to fix. Have run troubleshooter, DISM, etc. and see pages of script files to potentially run but with no confirmed "works" and fixed results.Is there a MS solution for this???? Running Windows 10 Pro - Ver 22H2, Build 19045.3324Would be appreciated with a 'real' answer to a fix!Chet / Houston

Based on your sensible and comprehensive troubleshooting methods, the solutions below can be tried further to fix the issue.

1. Reset Windows update components and clean up the Windows update cache.

Enter: cmd in Windows Search and open the Command Prompt (admin) > Type in the commands below and hit Enter key after each line.

net stop wuauserv

net stop bits

ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old

net start wuauserv

net start bits

> After that, restart your device and try the installation again.

2. Perform an in-place upgrade of your Windows 11 (Unlike reinstallation or reset of the system, this repair process will not affect your data or programs. And won't waste a lot of time).

• Go to the Download Windows 11 (microsoft.com) to download the Windows 11 Media Creation Tool.
  

• After the downloading process ends completely, double-click the downloaded .exe file to open the tool. > Click Yes > Accept > Select the Upgrade this PC Now option > Next > Click Change what to keep > Choose to keep your personal files and apps or start fresh. > Your computer will restart several times. > After that, log in to Windows 11 and make the needed settings.
  

Note:

1. Leave 20-25G space on your system disk to perform this.
   
2. It is recommended to back your files up to avoid unnecessary data loss before performing this.

The WOF Driver encountered a corruption in the compressed file’s Resource Table – DISM error

When I recently updated windows. For the last two days, suddenly the screen blinks in pink color and some software has been corrupted because after opening it, it does not open when I double click or run as administrator it does not give any response.

I can't even uninstall recent updates, because Uninstall option is not giving at all.

So to resolve this issue, I tried to use the online dism-command in cmd run as administrator.



1st cmd: C:\WINDOWS\system32>DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth



The component store is repairable.

The operation was completed successfully.



2nd cmd: C:\WINDOWS\system32>DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth



[== 4.9% ]

Error: 4448



The WOF driver encountered corruption in the compressed file's Resource Table.



The DISM log file can be found at C:\WINDOWS\Logs\DISM\dism.log



3rd cmd: C:\WINDOWS\system32>DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth



[== 3.8% ]

Error: 4448



The WOF driver encountered corruption in the compressed file's Resource Table.



The DISM log file can be found at C:\WINDOWS\Logs\DISM\dism.log



4th cmd: C:\WINDOWS\system32>sfc /scannow



Verification 2% complete.



Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation.



Even I use this cmd.

1st) C:\WINDOWS\system32>dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup



[==========================100.0%======================== =====]



Error: 14098



The component store has been corrupted.



The DISM log file can be found at C:\WINDOWS\Logs\DISM\dism.log

Troubleshoot is not responding and pc is not even reset

 

Corrupted WOF driver

First of all, the pc boots normally, so this problem only shows up so far when I try to run SFC. I have not had any updates to install since finding the error.

Can anyone tell me how to fix this driver easily without having to reimage the OS. If not, is this driver fixable using the procedure outlined in this document Repair a Windows Image | Microsoft Learn which uses a clean image on an external device? It's not clear to me if that will fix this driver. No idea how it got corrupted as the system was clean before I cloned the HDD to a new SSD drive. Failure occurred after checking SFC on new SSD which initially failed at 34% but after running DISM health and restore exe. it then failed at 59%. At that point the WOR driver corruption was indicated.

This is Win 10 and SFC fails at 59% and system 32>DISM.exe scanhealth /restorehealth fail at 37.2% with Error: 4448 Image version is 10.0.19045.2546. "WOF driver encountered a corruption in the compressed file's Resource Table."
