Windows 10: Windows Updates always result in a black screen after the update completes?

I upgraded to Windows 10 from 7 and everything is working well besides when I install the periodic updates to Windows it where it will update but then when the computer goes to shut down or restart (based on what option I chose) I will get a black screen with NO mouse cursor. I have a light up keyboard and I noticed that they keyboard is not lit up either, but the screen is technically on, just showing a blank, black screen.

After each update I have to hold the power button to turn off my pc which I am afraid will damage it. How do I got about fixing this? Google hasn't been too help and talks about about issues upgrading to windows instead. Thank you in advance.

Black Screen During Driver Update

I reinstalled my laptop back to factory settings, and I wanted to update the GPU drivers. But when I try, the screen turns black during the update, but the computer is still running. I was forced to turn off the computer and turn it back on. I used system restore, so now I'm using the default drivers that came with the laptop. Can you guys suggest anything?

Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.

Windows 7 black screen of death

I read a report a little while ago that said the black screens were nothing to do with updates but due to a malicious program (it hit more than just windows 7 users - vista, xp and 2000 were also prone to the black startup screen of death if infected). My windows 7 install is fully up-to-date and i've never had the black startup screen.

Just run some decent anti virus and you should be safe (i suggest microsoft security essentails since it's free and pretty decent). When you've installed an anti-virus i'd suggest doing a full scen to be sure there's nothing there.
