Windows 10: Windows Updates Download Errors etc

Hi,


I'm hoping somebody can help. For a while now, I've been unable to install certain windows updates. They attempt to download, often complete and may even start install, then I get a download error for each update. After which, I get the following message:


"There were some problems installing updates, but we'll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help: 0x8000ffff"


I also have the most recent update to new Windows 10 available, but this won't work either.


I've tried the media creation tool, the windows update assistant. I've tried various fixes I've seen online as well as following all of the advice from the "Get help" bot, i.e. DSIM and sfc, renaming certain system files, etc. Probably importantly, sfc finds errors but says it can't fix them all. I don't know enough to know how to find out where the error is or if I can do anything about it.


On top of this, the windows update troubleshooter does not run. It tries to, then says something is preventing it from opening. And I've noticed lately that the Device Manager has apparently been "blocked by an administrator".... as this is my personal PC, I can't see how that's possible, because I certainly haven't done it.


All of this comes along with frequent BSOD. Often a few times as soon as I switch on the PC, either before or just after I'm able to log in. But also out of the blue at random times, and especially when I've tried some of the above fixes, e.g. the media creation tool and update assistant.


I'm really at the end of my tether with all of these problems! If anyone can offer any advice, I'd be so grateful!

Who's downloaded the Windows 8.1 preview update?

For some reason the installer says the update is not applicable to your computer? (Win 8 Pro x64) anyone else try this what was released today?

EDIT: It appears the error is because the download is named Windows8-RT-KB2849636-x64 so looks like it's only for ARM based RT Windows 8 versions even though there's nothing suggesting that on the actual download page, so where's the x86 8.1 update people?

 

Vista x64 won't download updates?

The last updates on my home desktop are dated 16th June.
I've powered it on some 3 or 4 times since then, but nothing was downloaded automatically as per settings.

I tried the manual update from the CP but I get an error code 80070002.

I did the troubleshooting suggested (i.e. stop the Windows Update service, delete the temporary update files, restart the Windows Update service, and then try to check for Windows updates again) but I still keep getting the same error code, even after rebooting *Confused

What gives?

 

Windows Won't Update? (Error 0x80d0602)

When I get to the step that says del %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Network\Downloader\qmgr*.dat, nothing happens.
