Windows 10: Windows updates from 1809 and up breaks wifi adapters....

So... I was hoping that over time microsoft would fix updates that don't break the wifi on our home computers. I was forced to go to linux on my mom's PC and for mine I been holding off on updates as much as possible. I was forced to update to version 1809 , build 17763.864. I noticed a 2nd wifi adapter popping up called Wi-Fi Direct Virtual Adapter.

I uninstalled the adapter and so far no wifi issues over the past few minutes. It's so annoying that I had to disable and re enable my usb wifi adapter every 5 minutes. I even did the reset network option a couple times.

When will there be a time when I can do updates normally that don't break the wifi??? Also, on Mom's machine I did ver 1909 and the wifi was broken still. So, she's still on Linux Pop OS till Microsoft fixes these issues. Our PCs are 4 yrs old. There's no reason for all of this. But, I hope this issue is fixed.

WiFi breaks after Windows 10 1809 update

MSI Titan GT80 SLI, was running Win10 1803, just bumped me to 1809 an hour ago. I thought for sure the driver issue was solved as it nuked my wi-fi ability in October disaster and no. The same thing happened.
I quickly downloaded the wifi drivers and installed them and I am back online.

This is just a ridiculous situation, I should not have to install drivers when going from 1803 to 1809. They had weeks to debug this and haven't yet. I thought this 1809 upgrade was different from the one
in October. It's the same broken upgrade.

 

Update made wifi adapter disapear

If the wifi adapter appears in Device manager without any warning triangle but there is no wifi section in Settings, Networks then reinstall the wifi adapter.

If the wifi adapter appears in Device manager without any warning triangle and there is a wifi section in Settings, Networks then use Settings, Update, Troubleshoot. I'd suggest this sequence:-
Hardware & devices
Network adapter
Internet connections

Wifi adapter disappears - goes 'hidden'


Running Windows 10 on an Acer laptop. Over the past month, the wifi connection dropped without explanation/warning.

First time, the adapter was visible in Device Manager (with a yellow triangle next to it). An interent search found the suggestion to uninstall it and restart. That worked.

Today, the connection dropped again. In Device Manager at first I could not see the wifi adapter listed. I clicked to see hidden devices and found the adapter and the Bluetooth (which I had not noticed was missing).

I again uninstalled, restarted, and both the wifi and bluetooth have returned.

Anyone any ideas as to what is happening, why it's happening, and what I need to do, please?

I have attached a screenshot of the DM windows as it is now, showing the wifi adapter name, etc.
