Windows Updates Prompts to Restart While Other Updates Are Installing? TR4rRhO-IBDwRz8_vc016JFFEN2xqvLczZMNz7MldaE.jpg

    Hello,

Well I guess the title gives the theme of my post away!

    Has anyone eloe noticed this?

In my lab at home am using GPO and WSUS to deliver updates and this morning I received the pop up box in the bottom right of my screen to restart/schedule etc but I still have an update installing:

    https://preview.redd.it/qpj7358t2mg...bp&s=4363cdfc8e1c839332afd1a57dfd9810daca940e

Surely if I restart while an install is in progress I risk corrupting that, knackering up the os?

I am also an IT manager and have noticed this my on clients machines. Updates etc and not in my sphere of responsibility but I would like to understand this more before I report it.

Is it ok to reboot when prompted, even if something is still installing or downloading? Or is their an error in the GPO or config somewhere that needs to be addressed?

    Cheers

Quick Tip: Easily Shutdown or Restart WITHOUT Installing Updates.

I'm sure I'm not the only one that has been in the situation of needing to shutdown a computer quickly, but there are updates waiting to install. Previous to Windows 8 you could at least restart without being forced to install the updates, and if you are quick you could hit the power button when the computer begins to POST and the computer will turn off. With Windows 8, now even restarting forces you to install the updates. You could use the cmd and Shutdown.exe to shutdown the machine, but I'm getting old and try to avoid the command prompt as much as possible.

Anyway, the easy way I've found to Shutdown or Restart without being forced to install the updates is to hit Ctrl+Alt+Del and use the power button in the bottom right on the screen that comes up. For whatever reason, this power button is the only one I've found in Windows 7/8 that gives the option to Shutdown or Restart without installing the updates.

    Thought I'd share.

    Windows Updates failed to instal

I just did step one and they have just all installed.... thank you so much.... it was quite frustrating having that update window pop up every 5 minutes and failing to instal every time

    Thanks mate

Windows Updates Prompts to Restart While Other Updates Are Installing?

    Windows updates won't install!

I had the same problem when i repaired my O/S, i forgot the steps on how to fixed it, but it is in the microsoft support forum.

You have to reinstall the windows updater, then restart the updating service.
