  1. Windows upgrade fails -- cannot uninstall a device

Trying to upgrade Windows 7 to Windows 10 using Setup. Dell laptop XPS 15Z. Eventually get to a place where the upgrader says it needs to uninstall incompatible things including Microsoft Security Essentials. One of these is a Cypress TrackPad app. I have uninstalled this repeatedly. I uninstalled it in a "remove drivers for this device" mode as well. Every time the uninstall requires a reboot, and every time after the reboot the Windows 10 upgrader fails at the same place, saying that the Cypress TrackPad app must be uninstalled.

When Windows 10 first came out, I did successfully upgrade this laptop, so I know it can be done, but then I had to restore Windows 7 because of some programs that at that time ran well the WIndows 7 system.

How do I get the upgrader to continue?

I have tried uninstalling all the mice and HID devices I can find in the device manager before rebooting. There is no "disable" option available in device manager. I cannot find the trackpad app on the disk to delete it by brute force.

How do I get this updated to Windows 10?

    :)

a request for device descriptor request failed

Maybe it's time to step back from the current efforts, and start over. I suggest you read over this excellent tutorial and try all of its steps: [Solved] Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed) for Windows 10 - Driver Easy. The one that may provide you with some easy relief is the one where you uninstall the device whose descriptor is failing, reboot, and see what happens when device enumeration recurs during boot-up. If you're lucky, it will fix itself.

Mini DisplayPort fails with upgrade from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10

When I upgraded my Surface PRO 2 from 8.1 to 10, the mini DisplayPort would not work. I verified that Windows 10, drivers and firmware were all up to date. With help from MS service, the following worked:

    1. To open Device Manager, click Start, click Search programs and files, and then type Device Manager. A list of available matching items appears above the search box; click Device Manager. Device Manager opens with your computer name at the top and a list of devices that are installed on your computer beneath your computer name.
    2. Locate the malfunctioning device in the list of devices, right-click the device, and then click Uninstall. When a warning message appears that you are uninstalling a device from your system, click OK. Device manager uninstalls the device.
    3. Right-click your computer name in Device Manager and click Scan for hardware changes. Device manager scans your system and automatically reinstalls your device.
    4. RESTART
    5. Right-click the device and click Properties. On the General tab of the device Properties dialog box, in Device status, you should see the message This device is working properly.

Note that originally, I followed thru Step 2 and then did an Install from the Device Manager menu and this failed. I tried several times. However, Step 3 above "Scan for hardware changes" worked.

Other than that, the upgrade was seamless, with a few quirks, having to get used to a new interface plus MS Edge. I like IE just fine but now it seems to fail frequently when Edge is also active. I am one who liked Windows 8.1 just fine. Hopefully, I will like Windows 10 once I get used to it. Also, RoboForm will not work with MS Edge (Ugh!).
