  1. Windows using WiFi instead of direct Ethernet to NAS

So basically, I have a janky NAS I made in my Ubuntu server with Samba. It's connected to my local network via WiFi I know this isn't ideal, but my server isn't ideal anyways but since my PC and my server have NICs, I decided to hook them right up for a way faster connection without saturating the bandwidth of my router. So I first setup my WiFi sharing on my PC, but then I decided to use a direct connection so I hooked up an ethernet cable it does 1 Gbps, which it was able to achieve when I tried transferring a file. But the issue was that it would somehow suddenly migrate to WiFi without

  2. Windows 10 connecting to NAS (also W10) via Wi-Fi instead of direct Ethernet connection

    Hi blobfishesunite,

Thanks for your post in Microsoft Community.

It sounds like your Windows 10 connecting to NAS (also W10) via Wi-Fi instead of direct Ethernet connection. The current situation I understand is that two PCs are connected to the Nas via Ethernet and connected to the network adapter via WIFI. Maybe there is a connection between Nas and Adapter as well, but this does not affect our diagnosis of the issue.

The connection method of the PC depends on the speed of Ping. When the connection between PCs and Nas is particularly slow as you mentioned, the PC will naturally choose the WIFI connection with faster Ping.

Therefore, to make the PC choose to connect via Nas instead of WIFI by default, our suggestion is to map Nas to Adapter or Adapter to Nas, so that the PC thinks they are the one. But be aware that the realization of this completely depends on whether your Nas or Adapter has the mapping function.

I hope the above information can relieve your doubts, and feel free to post back if you need further assistance.

  3. Windows 10 connecting to NAS (also W10) via Wi-Fi instead of direct Ethernet connection

Good day. My main Windows 10 computer uses a NAS for some files, games, and apps. These two machines are connected to each other via an Ethernet cable, and can successfully transfer data at a rate of at most 1Gbit/s. When the NAS is stuck transferring over WiFi, it caps out around 40Mbit/s. I am manually able to force the connection to transfer data over Ethernet if I go into the Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center > Change Adapter Settings, and from there, I bridge the WiFi and Ethernet connections and then remove the bridge. This then allows data to transfer over Ethernet. Unfortunately, Windows sometimes switches back to using the NAS over WiFi only, therefore causing high latency and slow transfer speeds. Is there any way to disable the file transferring over WiFi and force the computer to connect only using the direct Ethernet connection?

PS: I need WiFi enabled on both of these machines

Windows using WiFi instead of direct Ethernet to NAS

Can I use a NAS in the PE if I am on WIFI not Ethernet?

So LAN can be both Ethernet and WIFI if I understand correctly

So if I am in the Windows PE (pre-installation environment) for instance and I am connected to my network via WIFI not Ethernet, I will still be able to access all contents of my NAS, right?

Or can that only be done via Ethernet?
