Windows 10: Windows will not let me install the Adobe PDF reader

I have a spanking brand new Windows 11 laptop. I need to install the Adobe Acrobat reader in order to print a Post Office shipping label. So I went to Adobe and downloaded the app. But every time I try to open the file, I get an error message that says The app you’re trying to install isn’t a Microsoft verified appOf course, the message helpfully links to me to the MS app store. BUT the only Adobe PDF readers available for download from the MS store cost $$$.So I've googled--I mean *Binged* that's another problem, for a separate question--lots of sites for the solution to how I can down

Adobe Releases Fix for PDF Security Flaw

Adobe has finally issued an update for its Acrobat Reader products. This patch updates Adobe Reader to version 8.1.1 and addresses several known issues, one of which is the PDF bug we reported here. Adobe recommends that all Adobe Reader 8 users apply this update.

• Close a potential security vulnerability on Windows XP computers that have Internet Explorer 7 installed (CVE-2007-5020); see the Adobe Security Bulletin (APSB07-18) concerning this issue
• Address several PDF forms-related issues
• Provide additional stability

Adobe Reader

Hi Bobby,

This is Wil, one of the independent advisor, an expert with Windows 10 and a fellow Windows 10 user like you.

It means that the file association of your PDF files was changed from Adobe Reader to Microsoft Edge. Kindly follow the steps below on how to change file type association.

1. Right-click on one of the PDF files or files that you open on Adobe Reader.

2. Click on properties

3. On the General tab, click on the Change button and choose Adobe Reader on the list of programs.

4. If you can't find Adobe Reader on the list, scroll down and click on More Apps and look further for the Adobe Reader.

5. If it's still not there, scroll down further and click on "Look for another app on this PC" and navigate to the directory of Adobe Reader.

Windows 10 and Adobe Reader

I suggest you to un-install and re-install the Adobe Reader and check if that helps:

Follow the steps to un-install the Adobe Reader.

• 
  Type control panel
  in the search box.
  
• 
  Click on programs and features or uninstall a program (depends on what view you are in)
  
• 
  Right click on Adobe Reader.
  
• 
  Click on uninstall.
  
• 
  Go through uninstall Wizard to Uninstall Abode Reader.
