Windows 10: Windows won't keep taskbar button order

I want my taskbar buttons to be ordered in the way that I put them there. I don't do that because I like doing it, but because I work that way. I don't feel like explaining why. I just want a particular order.


Now why des Windows feel the need to reorder my buttons??


Every time, FULLY reproducible, every time I switch to a different virtual desktop and back, the taskbar buttons are reset to some arbitrary default order.


This is a bug in Windows. Microsoft, please fix this. You're ignoring a user's action you're allowing in the first place. If you can't keep order, don't provide reordering. If you provide reordering, keep the order as the user decides.


Taskbar buttons are set to only display buttons for the current desktop. So virtual desktop #2 has different buttons than virtual desktop #1. I also have 2 screens above each other. The same goes there: taskbar buttons are shown for the windows that are on each particular desktop only.


Again, 100% reproducible.


Everything is up-to-date. Mainstream releases only. No 3rd party window management. Only StartIsBack++, which doesn't concern itself with button placement.

Windows Taskbar Button Order forgets "proper" order

I am a visual person and want my Windows Explorer folder windows to be opened at the same coordinates and in the same order. Everyday when I login, I run a script to open the same five folders in the "proper" order so I can manually drag them to where they "ought" to be on the screen.

Can anybody tell me why, say, the SECOND folder sometimes forgets that it's supposed to be second in the Combined Buttons list and jumps to the end of the list?



When it does, I have to stop my workflow and close ALL the Explorer windows and re-run the script. (For example, I had to close the 3 project folders I am working on in order to capture this demonstrating screenshot)

And is there a way to have these five folders always open in the "right" place and not have to manually drag them around?

Problem with a combine taskbar icons.

In Windows 10, you can personalize the settings of your taskbar. If there are multiple applications opened, same applications will be combined under one taskbar button. If you want to change this setting, we suggest that you follow the steps listed below:

• Press the Start button.
• Click on the Settings app.
• Select Personalization.
• At the left side of your window, click on Taskbar.
• Under Combine taskbar buttons, choose Never.
