Windows won't use headphones for audio

I've tried to connect my headphones for audio, but it still plays through the laptop. These headphones work on my phone, and used to work on this laptop. I've updated Windows, and I've reconnected my headphones, but audio only plays through the laptop speakers. There's an area in settings system -> sound -> All sound devices -> properties and there's a section where I have to click "allow" to let windows use my headphones for audio. I try to click "allow" but it won't let me click the setting

    :)

Move audio to one side for speakers but not headphones

    Hello J1mmyth3F1sh,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

    • Is your headphones getting detected in the Playback settings?
    • Are you trying to play the audio on both Speakers and Headphones at the same time?

Ideally, if you have configured Sound settings to play on your left speakers, the same goes with the headphones. The sound starts playing only on the left side of your headphones according to the settings changed.

Meanwhile, we can try configuring the headphones and change the balance level in the sound settings and see if it works. Kindly check with the steps listed below and see if it helps.

Method : Run audio test for your headphones.

    • Open Control Panel from the Start menu and click on
      Sound.
    • In the Sound window, click on your
Headphones and select Configure option at the bottom left.
    • By running the test, check if both sides of your headphones are working fine.

If that doesn’t help, I would suggest you to check with the audio balance by following the steps listed below:

    • Open Sound settings from
      Control Panel,
and right click on the Headphones to open its
      Properties.
    • Click on Levels tab and select
      Balance
button. In the Balance window, you can use the slider to balance both left and right headphones equally.

However, I commend and appreciate you for recognizing this behavior. This is a valuable suggestion as there may be other users with a similar requirement. Hence, I suggest you to leave a
    Feedback for this product so
that our developer team can look into this and check if it can be implemented in the future updates.

    Regards,

i would also recommend looking at the Audio Technica m50s if this is your first step into audiophile headphones.

most of the cans you listed will also need an amp to push them.

Windows won't use headphones for audio

WIndows 11 won`t record audio when USB headphones are pluged in

    Good Day GonzaGH,

My name is Carlo, I am also using Windows 11 pc and community member like you. Let us work together to sort this out.

-Are you using the headphone microphone to record the audio?

First, try to connect your headphone using a different device for us to check if the issue is with your computer or the headphone itself.

if it does the same using a different device means that the headphone mic is faulty.

If the headphone mic works using a different device proceed with the steps below.

    -Go to Settings

    -Click System

    -Click Troubleshooter then Additional troubleshooter.

-Look for Speech and run the troubleshooter.

    -Go to Device Manager

-Expand the Sound and Video Game Controller

-Look for Audio driver that was installed

    -Right click and Update

-Look for "Browse my computer for driver

-Let me pick drivers available drivers

-Choose an old driver and use it.

Connect the USB Headphone and proceed with these steps.

    -Go to Control Panel

-In Control Panel, select Large icons from the View by drop down menu.

    -Select Sound.

    -Select the Recording tab

-Right click the Headphone Microphone and click Enable.

-Right-click it again and select Set as Default Device.

-Right click Headphone Microphone and click Properties.

-Click the Levels tab, then drag the volume slider towards the largest value.

    -Click OK

    -Click Advance Tab

-Uncheck the box to "Allow application to take exclusive control on this device"

Turn on Microphone Privacy in each app.

Select Start > Settings > Privacy > Microphone . In Allow access to the microphone on this device, select Change and make sure Microphone access for this device is turned on.

Then, allow apps access to your microphone.

Once you've allowed microphone access to your apps, you can change the settings for each app.

Restart and try to record with the headphone.

If issue persist, let's download the updated driver.

What is the exact model of your computer?

To check the system model proceed with these steps.

    -Press Windows key + R

    -Type msinfo32 and hit enter.

-Look for the System Model and manufacturer and post it here.

I hope the information above helps. Please let me know how it goes.

Have a wonderful day ahead and stay safe.

    Sincerely,

    Carlo T.
