  2. Mobile device center 6.1 on vista not syncing appointments and contacts

Another thing to look out for is that Apple iTunes has a Contacts and Appointments component that is an Outlook COM add-in on Windows XP and Vista computers. Those iTunes conduits may prevent ActiveSync or WMDC from communicating contacts and calendar
data to Outlook. You have to go into Outlook's Tools > Options > Advanced Options (or in Vista, Tools > Trust Center > Add-ins) to disable iTunes conduit.

  3. Contacts no longer synchronizing with Treo 750W

I see this problem so much, and then just today Andre in the Connections forum posted this possible solution:

Apple iTunes has a Contacts and Appointments component that is an Outlook COM add-in on Windows XP and Vista computers. Those iTunes conduits may prevent ActiveSync or WMDC from communicating contacts and calendar data to Outlook. You have to go into Outlook's
Tools > Options > Advanced Options (or in Vista, Tools > Trust Center > Add-ins) to knock out the pesky iTunes conduit.

But why? That's stupid unless their argument is that an attacker can get into your PC and steal your apple info but that would also mean their software isn't as secure as we thought. Either way that's dumb.

Older versions of SSL are now considered insecure and easily broken. XP and Vista were past their support dates when the NSA and other authorities announced SSL v3's weaknesses, and recommended that all software using these protocols be disabled.

So, because those OS's are no longer supported, they don't have the patches that disable SSLv3 (requiring TLS). This means attackers can force any number of SSL based attacks.

  6. This makes me sad because I loved Windows Vista and I know in 2020 I will have to say goodbye to a dear friend. Windows 7.

That is the argument.... Running an OS that no longer supported is a security risk for the end user. When the iTunes account credentials are stolen, Apple has no way knowing, if it's the account owner or someone else logging in to iTunes. This does not impact iTunes security in general, just the account in question.

    That and what Mystere stated:

    Apple is doing it.

Both of these OS's are not secure.
