Windows 10: WINDOWS10 NEW INSTALLATION - Encrypt FOLDER ATTRIBUTE

Hi,


Can some one please give input if below issue is noticed and how it can be resolved.I have a pc of less than a year old and very recently I came to find that for a folder on right click in advanced option "Encrypt contents to secure data" checkbox is greyed out.Below were two of my attempts to resolve this but none worked

1.Changed the regedit needed value 2 times,with restart as mentioned in web -This did not worked.

2.As last attempt have performed a system restore(with no file deletions) on my new PC -This too did not enabled the checkbox.


This is on WINDOWS 10 OS and I want to CROSSCHECK if similar greyed out checkbox is present in NEW WINDOWS 10 installation or after restore is performed.AS extra note no explicit malwares or apps are present here.

Encrypting a folder

Hello Bill,

To encrypt a folder in Windows 10 Home, follow these steps:

• Right-click the folder you want to encrypt and click Properties.
• On the General tab, click Advanced.
• Under Compress or Encrypt attributes, click Encrypt contents to secure data.
• Click OK then Apply to save the changes.

Can't encrypt or password protect folders?

• Are you logging-in using Administrator User account?
• Is this issue specific to any particular folder or persist in all the folders?

Encrypting File System (EFS) is a feature of Windows that you can use to store information on your hard disk in an encrypted format. Encryption is the strongest protection that Windows provides to help you keep your information secure. I suggest you to try
log-in through other Administrator account and perform the below given steps to encrypt the folder and check if it works:

How to encrypt a file

• Right-click (or tap and hold) a file or folder and select Properties.
• Select the Advanced... button and select the Encrypt contents to secure data check box.
• Select OK to close the Advanced Attributes window, select
  Apply, and then select OK.

Private folders encrypted and password protected folders

give it ago just install it im only using it to lock down folders and files at the moment, you can move and copy the Private folders to other pc's you will need it installed on the other pc so you can open it, they work in the same way mounting the folders.
